 Recall the classroom rules.

1. Review Recall lesson on “Word Cline”.


Whole Group Activity:
Plaster the word box on the board. Ask for volunteers to complete the
following word cline. Instruct the students to take a word cut-out from the
word box and place it on the blanks accordingly.

2. Motivation Present a YouTube lyric video of a song about synonyms and antonyms. Let
the students listen and comprehend the song on the first play. Repeat the
song for two more times and encourage the students to sing-along.

B. Lesson Proper

1. Activity Group the class into three and provide each group with the differentiated
instructions below.

Group 1: Pair the word cut-outs in the envelope with its corresponding
synonym.

Group 2: Pair the word cut-outs in the envelope with its corresponding
antonym.

Group 3: Pair the word cut-outs in the envelope with its corresponding
synonym.

Group 4: Pair the word cut-outs in the envelope with its corresponding
antonym.

2. Analysis After the activity, let the students plaster their outputs on the board for the
whole class to see. Dissect the activity with the students.
 What can you say about the words from Group 1 and Group 3? Do
they mean the same?
 How about the words from Group 3 and Group 4? Do they mean the
same or opposite from each other?

3. Abstraction To know more about our lesson, let us read this poem first.
Gifts of Mother Nature

1. Do lots and many mean the same?
2. Do clean and clear mean the same?
3. Do clean and fresh mean the same?

The underlined words in each number mean the same. Words that mean the
same thing are called synonyms.

Other examples of synonyms:


beautiful – pretty mad – angry
happy – glad big – large
tiny – small – little

Let us take a look at the sentences below.


1. The rivers are clean. Now, these are dirty.
2. The air is fresh. Now, it is polluted.
3. Mother Earth is happy. Now, she is sad.

Let us study the underlined describing words in each


number.
1. Is clean the same with dirty?
2. Is fresh and polluted the same?
3. Is happy the same with sad?

They are opposites. Words with opposite meanings are called antonyms.
Other examples of antonyms:
low – high new – old
small – huge young – old
dirty - clean
4. Application Let the students write this activity on their notebooks.

Direction: Read each sentence carefully. Identify whether the pair of words
used in the sentences are synonyms or antonyms. Write S on the blank for
synonyms and A for antonyms.
