Instruction: Identify the kinds of quantitative research designs used in the following research situations. Explain
briefly the meaning of each research design.

RESEARCH SITUATION KIND OF EXPERIMENTAL/NON-EXPERIMENTAL

1. A group of 18-year-old female was studied to test
the effect of eating cakes in the level of their
blood sugar. The group was tested before and after
eating the cake to determine if there are changes in EXPLANATION: It seeks to establish a cause and effect

determine customer satisfaction, that is, the
student’s attitude toward or opinions regarding
student services like the canteen, clinic, security,
the guidance and counselling services and the like.
ANSWER: Descriptive Research
EXPLANATION: In this research, it desires to describe
the current situation of the identified variable. It also
designed to provide systematic/organized gathering of
information about the specific topic. By doing this
research, the researcher must be careful in selecting of
respondents, he or she must be careful in collecting data
in order to get the fully developed data.

3. Two groups of students were involved in a study

about the effect of social media in their study
habits. 10 students were chosen from Grade 7, 8
and 9 as the control group and another 10 students
were chosen from Grade 7, 8 and 9 as the
experimental group.
ANSWER: Experimental Research
EXPLANATION: The research uses the scientific
method to establish cause and effect relationships among
the groups of variables that make up a research. It
includes a hypothesis, a variable that can manipulated by
the researcher, and those variables can be measured,
calculated and compared. An independent variable is
manipulated to determine the effects on the dependent
variable. The subjects are treated experimentally rather
than knowing it in naturally occurring groups.

4. A researcher wants to know the effect of using

 power point presentation in TVL topics. She
grouped them as Group A and Group B as her
respondents both coming from Grade 12 students.
She administered pre-test on both groups, do
several power point presentations on the Group A
and administered post-test on both groups.
5. Two groups of college students coming from
public and private school were compared about
their attitude and personality.

ANSWER: Correlational Research
EXPLANATION: The research attempts to know the
size or range of a relationship between 2 or more
quantitative variables using statistical data. With this type
of research, the relationship between those variables are
being sought and interpreted. In this research we’ll know
the trends and patterns of each data. Thus, we’ll know the
result in the end of the process of data analysis is stable.
