QUANTITATIVE

RESEARCH DESIGN
BY ERICA L. CANON-Teacher
1 (SHS)
Lesson Objectives:
1. differentiate the different
quantitative research designs;
and
2. choose an appropriate
quantitative research design to a
situation or research title.

sentence/statement/sit

is qualitative,
Sabaki Tilapia
has a yellowish-
blue background
color.
Tilapia is made-up
of three (3)
important
aquaculture
genera.
Nile Tilapia has a
presence of
strong vertical
stripes on the
caudal fin.
The female tilapia
has 3 openings:
the anus, the
genital pore, and
the urinary pore.
Cages for tilapia
are much smaller.
Tilapia is the second
most common species
farmed in aquaculture
after carp.
Oreochromis spilurus has
greenish-yellow color,
yellow-green spots on
dorsal and caudal fins.
The average fry
production per
spawner is 80-100 per
month.
A tilapia’s mouth is made-
up of small conical teeth
that are arranged in rows
or bands to keep food in
place.
The tilapia fish
is uniparental.
What made you decide whether the
situations are qualitative?

They are considered under qualitative data

because observations used our senses.

How do you call observations that are not

measurable?

QUALITATIVE DATA
How will you describe qualitative research?
Qualitative research is a process of
naturalistic inquiry that seeks an in-depth
understanding of social phenomena within
their natural setting.
How about data that are measurable? How
do you call them?
QUANTITATIVE DATA
What is quantitative research?
QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH….
are measurable data to formulate facts and
uncover patterns in research. The
quantitative data collection methods are
much more structured.
4 BASIC TYPES OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGNS

Descriptive/Survey
Correlational
Causal-Comparative
Experimental
POST ME!

• The class will be divided according to the FB

emoji they have picked.
• Based on the corresponding research titles given
for each group, they will choose the appropriate
quantitative research design.
• Afterward, they will present their output through
their chosen TikTok dance whiles singing the
answers.
Survey/Descriptive Research Design

• Tobacco-use habits of teenagers

• Parents perception about the twelve-month school year
• Attitudes of scientists regarding global warming
• Kinds of physical activities that typically occur in nursing homes
• The extent to which elementary teachers use Mathematics manipulatives
Correlational Research Design

• The relationship between intelligence and self-esteem

• The relationship between diet and anxiety
• The covariance of smoking and lung disease
• The relationship between the types of activities used in math classrooms and student achievement

• The relationship between intelligence and self-esteem.

Quasi-Experimental Research Design

• The effect of part-time employment on the achievement of high school students

• The effect of gender on algebra achievement
• The effect of taking multivitamins on a students’ school absenteeism
• The effect of an aerobic exercise program on children’s rate of obesity

• The effect of part-time employment on the achievement of high school students.

Experimental Research Design

• The effect of a new treatment plan on breast cancer

• A comparison of the effect of personalized instruction vs traditional instruction on computational skills
• The effect of teaching with cooperative group strategy or a traditional lecture approach on
student’s achievement
• The effect of positive reinforcement on attitude towards school
• The effect of a systematic preparation and support
system on children who were scheduled for surgery
on the amount psychological upset and cooperation.
Are these research topics/titles
quantitative?

How did you choose the appropriate

quantitative research design?

How made you say that it is

survey/descriptive? correlational? quasi-
experimental? experimental?

How will you differentiate the 4 types of

research design?
Are these research topics/titles
quantitative? YES

How did you choose the appropriate

quantitative research design?
Based on the title itself, you can already
identify the type of research design you will
use
How made you say that it is
survey/descriptive? correlational? quasi-
experimental? experimental?

• Descriptive means describing

• Correlation means having a relationship
• Quasi-experimental means that one variable
is not manipulated
• Experimental means manipulating one
variable.
How will you
differentiate the 4
types of research
design?
Survey/Descriptive research design
- to describe a phenomenon and its characteristics

Correlational Research Design

-to describe the relationship between variables and
to measure the strength of the relationship
Quasi-Experimental/Casual Research Design
- to establish a cause-and-effect relationship
between an independent and dependent variable
Experimental Research Design
- to explain effects and determine a causal relation
between two variables.
• What are the four different types of
quantitative research design? How do
they differ from each other?

Using the template below,

summarize the four
quantitative research designs
according to its goal, and its
corresponding variable
manipulation.

TAG ME IN!

The students will choose the appropriate

research design for a research title. The
teacher will tag a student by spinning the
wheel. The name which the spinner point
will be the one to answer.
If you were the researcher, what type of research design
will you choose?

a. The Role of Facebook in Combating

Misinformation Online
b. Learning Styles and Level of Motivation of
Honor Students
c. Classroom Temperature’s Influence on
Student’s Attention Span
