    1. Gathers materials (Basins, towel, baby clothes, swab sticks, soap,
    shampoo)
    2. Performs hand hygiene
    3. Dons sterile gloves
    4. Transfers newborn to the bathing section
    5. Explain procedure to the mother to reduce anxiety to win her co-
    operation and encourage participation.
    6. Pour water into the tub. Prevents chances of hypothermia or scalding
    and adjust temperature by checking with the elbow or dorsal side of the
    palm.
    7. Undress the baby. To made ready for bath
    8. Place the head of the baby on your non- dominant palm and support the
    body with the forearm. Safeguards the baby from slipping.
    9. Close ears with the thump and middle finger of the non- dominant hand.
    Prevents entry of water.
    10. Wipe the eyes from inner canthus to outer canthus with the cotton
    swabs. It prevents entry of debris and micro- organisms into the lacrimal gland.

    11. Dip hand in water and wipe face taking care that no water goes into the
    mouth of infant. Follows the principle less contaminated to the most contaminated
    area.

    12. Wet hair and apply soap or shampoo gently wash the scalp. Rinse with
    water and dry hair with towel. Drying immediately prevents hypothermia
    13. To start washing trunk. Place the baby into the tub with shoulders neck
    and head supported by the non-dominant hand and the trunk and legs in water.

    14. Wet the baby’s neck, chest, hands, abdomen, legs and perineum
    15. For cleaning back and buttocks transfer the baby to the other hand in
    such a way that neck and chest are supported over the palm, by holding the baby
    securely.

    16. Apply soap on skinfolds and rinse with water. prevents skin concentrating
    irritation.
    17. Spread the towel over a flat surface. Place the baby on it and dry. For
    better convenience
    18.With the swab stick swab the inner and outer circle of umbilical cord. To
    prevent infection.

    19. Wraps / swaddles the NB with a clean blanket


    20. Brings the newborn to the mother
    21. Performs after care of equipment/materials
    22. Removes gloves
    23. Performs hand hygiene
    24. Documents the necessary data
