The objective of this project is to address the growing demand for efficient and
precise plant watering systems in contemporary agricultural and horticultural
practices. Conventional manual irrigation methods often result in inconsistencies,
inefficiencies, and increased labor demands. To overcome these challenges, the
project aims to integrate two powerful technologies, the Arduino microcontroller,
and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The motivation arises from the strengths
of each technology, with Arduino providing versatility and user-friendly
programming for sensor interfacing and real-time decision-making, while PLCs offer
precision, reliability, and durability in controlling complex processes. The goal
is to create a synergistic and reliable automated plant watering system that
combines the adaptability of Arduino with the robust control capabilities of PLCs,
ensuring accuracy and dependability for optimal plant growth.

The integration of Arduino and PLCs represents a departure from conventional

standalone systems, introducing a new paradigm in smart irrigation. This
collaboration promises a more robust, scalable, and adaptable solution that can be
customized for various plant types, environmental conditions, and user preferences.
The project aims to explore the architecture, methodology, and program logic of
this hybrid system through detailed experiments and analyses. The ultimate
objective is to validate the effectiveness of this integrated approach and
contribute insights into advancing the field of automated plant care. Challenges
encountered during the implementation process will be transparently discussed,
along with proposed solutions, to present a comprehensive overview of the hybrid
Arduino-PLC system and its implications for the future of smart irrigation
technologies.
