1. Confer with your Resource Teacher about scoring students’ assessment tasks, grade
computation and preparation for reporting. Take notice of:

• the individual student’s scores in relation to established criterion of success or cut-off

score
• parents’ participation and comments during reporting
• RT’s responses to queries and other concerns raised during reporting

2. Narrate your experience

I believe that students' scores signify whether they understood the lesson, accomplished what
was expected of them, and if they acquired the necessary skills they need to. Through
scoring based on an established criterion, teachers will be able to determine if their students
have learned something from the subject matter, as well as distinguish who among their
students needs to take remediation. In addition, these scores will serve as a motivation for
students to do well next time, particularly if the teacher gives intrinsic motivation or rewards
every time her students exhibit profound knowledge on the subject taught. While the teacher's
motivation through positive reinforcement works, parents' involvement is also crucial in the
children's success in the academe. This is mainly because the active participation of parents
in their child's education encourages the child to strive harder in school, thus affecting their
emotional aspects and addressing their needs positively. When parents show interest in their
child's learning, the learner will likewise show interest in it. Since there are external factors
affecting a child's education, parents must be aware of them in order to know how it impacts
their child's learning progress. By doing this, they can address these factors that cause their
children to lose interest in school or cause them to perform badly in terms of their school
tasks. Likewise, the resource teacher answered the queries with patience. She talked to the
parents calmly, praised their children's good performance and good conduct, and
subsequently raised her concerns regarding their behavior.

What are the teaching implications of the students’ test scores and grades?

The students' test scores and grades imply whether the student has an adequate understanding
of the subject matter, exhibits good performance, and is able to apply in actual context the
concepts she learned during discussion. Further, grades and scores are tools to recognize if the
student performed well academically. It likewise serves as a basis for their comprehension of the
subject. Test scores and grades are also used by teachers to identify what else the students lack
or the areas that need improvement.

Research 2.

How was the reporting of grades to parents/guardians?

The reporting of grades to the parents and guardians went well, particularly because they were
very understanding of why their children had achieved the grades indicated in their report cards.
They are also aware of their children's negative behavior affecting their academic performance,
so they agree with what the teacher says. The nice thing about the meeting was that parents
and teachers came up with an agreement addressing the students' negative behavior in order to
improve them next quarter.
What were the most common comments of parent/guardians?

During the meeting, most parents asked how they could encourage their children to do well, as
well as what necessary steps to take in order for them to perform better next quarter.

What personal message do I get from these students’ scores, grades, and
parents’/guardians’ comments?
Listening to my resource teacher and the student's parents/guardian, I discovered that they are
proud of their children's achievement, even if the child's grade is not that high. Additionally, they
are concerned with the children's performance, not just about their grades, but especially of their
behavior. Therefore, it is important that as a teacher, I know how to balance the knowledge and
values I instill in them since both are important in their success as learners.

OBSERVE

One good thing that I observe in scoring / grading and reporting was
The teacher did it with a basis on hand (a scoring rubric) to ensure its fairness and
objectivity. She also praised students who got higher scores and encouraged those who
didn't. During the dissemination of report cards, she gave rewards to the students who
performed well academically shown in their report cards (those in the top 12), and
subsequently gave them certificates of recognition.

One thing that DID NOT go very well in scoring / grading and reporting was…
Some parents did not show up at all, while some asked other individuals to attend the
meeting for them causing confusion since they didn't hear the teacher's concerns about
their children themselves, and they weren't informed of the steps to take to improve their
children's learning progress.

Activity 3- Grading and Reporting
The scoring / grading and reporting went well because…
The teachers showed parents the raw scores of their children as evidence of their
learning, as well as to maintain integrity. She also permitted them to ask questions and
answered them comprehensively.

The scoring / grading and reporting did not go well because…

Some parents were late to the meeting and missed other information conveyed by the
teacher.

To ensure that the scoring, grading, and reporting serve their purpose, to help students
learn, I will learn from other’s best practices by researching on…or view video on…
How to efficiently conduct a teacher-parent meeting and what precautionary measures to
take in order to ensure a smooth and respectful conversation with parents. Also, reading
numerous materials on different approaches a teacher may employ in terms of talking to
parents about their children is needed.

To help improve scoring, grading and reporting practices, I would like to conduct action
research on
The right conduct is informing parents/guardians of their children's academic
performance.
