The line graph compares three different nations namely Japan, Sweden, and the USA in

terms of the percentage of people who aged 65 and over from 1940 to 2040.
Overall, the proportion of elderly people in three countries witness an upward trend.
Another striking feature is that Japan will have the largest rate of elderly people in 2040.
In 1940, the percentage of population aged 65 and over in the USA was approximately a
tenth, which is slightly higher than that of Sweden, at nearly 7%. The figure for Japan was
minimally lower, at precisely 5%.
Over the next century, the prediction is that the rate of elderly American population will
escalate and peak at roughly 23%. The proportion of elderly people in Sweden is projected to go
up and reach the highest point of just over a quarter. Meanwhile, despite the gradual decrease by
about 2% in the percentage of Japanese senior citizens between 1940 and 1980, the figure Japan
is forecast to surge and surpass the USA and Sweden to become the nation having the largest
proportion of elderly people.
