E.T (The Extraterrestrial) quietly.

popular movie that capturedthe hearts of the young and theold alike was E.T.,
The ExtraTerrestrial directed by StevenSpielberg. The movie wasreleased in
1982 and it was animmediate blockbuster. Thestory began when one night,
aspaceship landed on earth, andqueer-looking little creatureshopped out of it and
wentsniffing through the night, looking for plant specimens.Authorities arrived
whichterrified the aliens to take offand abandoned one of its crewmembers. This
little creature, the E.T., was left behind onEarth, confused and scared. Hewas
later found by Elliott, themovie’s hero. He trickedE.T. to come out from
hidingusing candies as an irresistible bait. They eventually becamefriends and
E.T. moved into thehouse, unknown to Elliott’smother. The creature has the
powers of telepathy andtelekinesis, and one of the waysit communicated was to
share itsemotions with Elliott. That'show Elliott knew that the E.T.wanted to go
home. The rest ofthe movies showcased howElliot and his family developeda
special kind of friendship withET despite their differences.

A Sci-fi movie that did notjust put the audience in awe because of its visual
effects and cinematography but also of its themes that people can relate to.. E.T.
is a story about friendship, loyalty, and family. The characters and plot have
been very effective in bringing out the themes of the movie. All these things
webbed together to form the film touched millions of people around the world.
The movie had no dull moments. It was able to trigger the varied emotions of the
viewers. The development of the plot carried the viewers into different emotions
starting with curiosity and fondness for ET, amazement on how the alien adapt
with the environment, worry when ET was put to danger and mixed feelings of
happiness and sadness when ET would already set off from earth. Despite ET's
unearthly appearance, odd little walk, its high-pitched squeals of surprise, its
funny imitations of human speech, and its catlike but definitely alien purring
sounds, viewers developed endearment and compassion to the creature. ET as
shown in the movie manifested different emotions common to people like fear.
love, altruism, pity, and joy. thereby making viewers realized that love for family
is universal and even transcends from this world and hevond the outer space. The
movie also dwelt on the possibility of friendship between human and a creature
despite their differences and inequalities. It highlighted how an innocent boy
accepted a queer-looking creature as a friend willing to sacrifice his own safety
and happiness to be able to help ET to go back where he came from.

The movie like ET The Extra Terrestrial is a feel-good movie that will make any
viewer leave the cinema with a smile on their faces and a light heart. It may be a
Science-fiction movie yet its purpose of reminding people to continue loving
every creation of God is realized. It is a movie that left an impact on the viewers'
minds even after years have already passed. Most importantly, it is the movie

COVID-19 situation in PH
by Jake J. Maderazo

As government speeds up vaccination of 1.7 million medical front liners nationwide, it is necessary to inform
everyone on how our country’s COVID- 19 situation compares worldwide in terms of cases and deaths per 1-million
population.

I think we are doing great, despite negative/alarmist news, according to the latest worldometer.com info website. We
are number 129 out of 219 countries worldwide with only 5,376 total cases per our 1-million population.

In ASEAN, we are third to Singapore which leads with 10,207 cases per million while Malaysia is second with 9,601
cases per million. Indonesia is close fourth with 5,008 cases per million with Sri Lanka fifth at 3,991 per million.

Rich and medically advanced countries such as USA is at number 8 (89,359), Spain at number 19 (67,334),
Switzerland at number 23 (64,648), UK at number 25 (61,919), and France at number 27 (59,723).

In terms of deaths per million, we are at number 118 out of 219 countries with only 113 deaths per 1-million
population. Indonesia leads ASEAN with 135 deaths while Malaysia has 36 deaths, Sri Lanka with 23 deaths, and
Singapore at 5 deaths per 1 million.

United Kingdom is at number 6 worldwide (1,827 deaths), Italy is number 8 (1,652 deaths), USA at number 11 (1,618
deaths), Spain at number 15 (1,521), and Mexico at number 16 (1,468 deaths per million).

These numbers speak the truth that since the pandemic outbreak last year, and whether there was a surge or spike
happening, our country is still in a far better situation than others in this planet.

Member 1: May I speak and share my
ideas for this project? I think I exactly
know how this plan would
go because in the school where I came
from…we had the same
project and it turned out quite well.
Member 3: When you moved here,
you left your old school somewhere in
Iloilo.
So, don’t try to imagine
that people here will be listening to your
jokes. Right guys?
Member 2: Being your Vice President,
I believe that we all need to hear
every idea that may secure
the success of our project…may they be
ideas from here or from
other parts of the country. So, I would
be
glad to here what you’ve
got to share Jennifer. Do we agree on
this,
guys?
Everyone: Yes, Vice!
Member 1: Thank you Vice! Please
allow me to share my experience from
my
old school where I served
as president of our Book Lover’s Club
for
more than a year ‘til I left
our project there still on progress and
they
say its doing good. So,
you see…..
Everyone listens to her as she convinces
them that the project will flourish.
