Flamingo is one of bird’s species with that has slender body and very long leg. The
name “Flamingo” come from the Spanish and Latin “Flamenco” that means fire. Flamingo live
in colonies that can be up to 1.000.000 birds. The size of average adult is 1,5 meters tall and
weight 1,6-3,8 kilograms. America and Canada are its native habitat. The habitat of this bird
consists of large shallow lakes, mangrove forests, lagoons, and sandy islands. Flamingos are
also found in warm, shallow, and watery areas.
Then flamingos need a very wide habitat, such as estuaries and salt or alkaline lakes in
Africa, Asia, Central America, North America, South America, and Europe. This flamingo bird
is easy to adapt to; it can live in hot volcanic lake areas and also in icy lakes in the Andes
mountains. Birds often migrate over long distances, including journeys covering more than
300 miles in one stretch overnight. Not only does it have a unique shape with very slender
legs, but flamingos also have a beak that can be said to be unusual. This beak has the function
of clamping food. But also, to filter the water and mud that are present when they take food.
This task is carried out using a type of comb contained in the flamingo's beak. They like to
sleep standing on one leg and resting their heads on their bodies.
The female makes loud squawking noises to attract the male. They wrapped their neck
around each other to show they are a couple. The female Flamingo only lays one egg. Both
parents take turns sitting on the nest to keep the egg warm. The flamingo chick hatches in 26-
31 days. Both parents feed the chick a white liquid called “crop milk”. After only five days, the
flamingo chick ready to leave the nest. Flamingo chicks have white feathers, red bills, and red
legs. The bills and the legs turn black in a week but it takes approximately 2 years for those
white feathers to change to pink. Baby flamingo follows the mother around for 2-3 weeks and
then they are ready to live on their own. At around 3 -6 years of age, flamingo female are
