1.____ are adjacent angles and are supplementary. This
means that the sum of the measurement of the angles is
equal to 180°.
2.____ are angles that have the same degree measure.
3.____ are intersecting lines that form a right angle.
4.____ are lines on the same plane that will never meet. In
addition, they have the same distance apart.
5.____ are pair of two non-adjacent angles formed by two
intersecting lines.
6.____ are two angles that share a common side and a
common vertex and do not overlap.
7.When the sum of the measurement of two angles is equal
to 180°, then these angles are called ____.
8.When the sum of the measurement of two angles is equal
to 90°, then these angles are called ____.

transversal.
PARALLEL LINES
are lines in a plane which do not meet; that is, two
straight lines (L1 and L2 in figure 2) in a plane that
do not intersect at any point.
If parallel lines are cut by transversal, then eight (8)
angles and pairs of angles are formed.

TRANSVERSAL
is a line (t in Figure 2) which
intersects two coplanar lines at
two different points.

CORRESPONDING ANGLES
are pairs of non-adjacent interior angles
and exterior angles on the same side of a
transversal.

THE FOLLOWING ARE

CORRESPONDING ANGLES:

∠ a and ∠ e
∠ b and ∠ f
∠ d and ∠ h
∠ c and ∠ g
THEOREM:
If two parallel lines are cut by a
transversal, then its corresponding
angles are congruent.

EXAMPLE:

If m a = 120, then ∠ a = 120.
m

If m c = 120, then ∠ g = 120.
m

If m b = 60, then ∠ f = 60.
m

If m d = 60, then ∠ h = 60.

ALTERNATE INTERIOR ANGLES
are pairs of non-adjacent interior angles
on opposite sides of a transversal.

THE FOLLOWING ARE

ALTERNATE INTERIOR ANGLES:

∠ d and ∠ f
∠ c and ∠ e
THEOREM:
If two parallel lines are cut by a
transversal, then the alternate
interior angles are congruent.

EXAMPLE:
∠ ∠
If m d = 60, then m f = 60.
∠ ∠
If m c = 120, then m e = 120.
ALTERNATE EXTERIOR ANGLES
are pairs of non-adjacent exterior angles
on opposite sides of a transversal.

THE FOLLOWING ARE

ALTERNATE EXTERIOR ANGLES:

∠ a and ∠ g
∠ b and ∠ h
THEOREM:
If two parallel lines are cut by a
transversal, then the alternate
exterior angles are congruent.

EXAMPLE:
If m ∠ a = 120, then m ∠ g = 120.
If m ∠ b = 60, then m ∠ h = 60.
SAME-SIDE INTERIOR ANGLES
are interior angles on the same side of a
transversal.

THE FOLLOWING ARE SAME-SIDE

INTERIOR ANGLES:

∠ d and ∠ e
∠ c and ∠ f
THEOREM:
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal,
then the interior angles on the same side
of the transversal are supplementary.

EXAMPLE:

1. In the figure, m d = 60. ∠
2. If m c = 120, what is the
Find the measure of ∠e. measure of ∠ f?

Solution: Solution:

Since m d + m ∠ e = 180, ∠
m c + m ∠ f = 180
then 60 + m ∠ e = 180 ∠ f = 180
120 + m
m ∠ e = 180 - 60 ∠ f = 180 - 120
m

therefore, m ∠ e = 120. therefore, m ∠ f = 60.

SAME-SIDE EXTERIOR ANGLES

∠ b and ∠ g
THEOREM:
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal,
then the exterior angles on the same side
of the transversal are supplementary.

EXAMPLE:
1. In figure 2, m ∠ a = 120. Find ∠
2. If m b = 60, what is the
the measure of ∠ h. measure ∠b?

Solution: Solution:

Since m a + m ∠ h = 180, ∠
m b + m ∠ g = 180
then 120 + m∠ h = 180 60 + m ∠ g = 180
m∠ h = 180 - 120 m∠ g = 180 - 60
therefore, m ∠ h = 60. therefore, m ∠ g = 120.
