DepEd: National learning camp improves learner outcomes

National Learning Camp (NLC) as a strategic initiative supporting the National Learning
Recovery Program (NLRP) serves a two-fold objective: to improve learner outcomes
and to strengthen teacher competence so they can teach better.

The NLC is a voluntary three- to five-week learning recovery program that will run from
July 24 to August 25, 2023 in participating schools across the country. It will mimic a
camp-like atmosphere by integrating fun and engaging activities to foster learner interests,
socio-emotional skills, personal growth, and character development.

As part of the pilot learning camp, Pili National High School supports to this National
Learning Recovery Program (NLRP) to benefit learners. As of this year, the voluntary
program will start its phased implementation with Grade 7 and Grade 8 focusing on English,
Mathematics, and Science.

It offered enrichment, intervention, and remediation camp activities. According to DepEd,

NLC is open for students who want to enhance what they’ve learned during the school year
and not just students with failing grades.

Students who have mastered the required lessons in class can join the “enhancement camp,”
while students that had acquired but not mastered lessons can join the “consolidation camp.”
Meanwhile, students who need help grasping foundation in Mathematics and English skills
can join the “intervention camp.”

It is very important to address the identified learning gaps. If left unaddressed, it can increase
the chances that a student will struggle academically. Often a child loses confidence at school
and as they progress through their education, repairing learning gaps then can become more
difficult
