MAke the curriculum relevant to produce competent and job-ready, active, and responsible citizens:
TAke steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services;
TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning
environment; and

- TA: Tapang na humarap sa ano man ang hamon sa buhay (Courage to face any life challenges)
- G: Galing ng Pilipino, nangingibabaw sa mundo (Excellence of Filipinos, standing out in the world)
Curriculum Objectives:
The MATATAG curriculum is designed to be relevant and responsive to the demands of a rapidly
changing global landscape. It emphasizes intellectual and emotional preparedness, balancing cognitive
skills and emotional maturity.
Curriculum Changes:
The new curriculum will reduce learning competencies from over 11,000 to 3,600. This reduction will allow
for a focus on foundational skills, leading to improved learning outcomes.
Learning Areas:
The current K-10 curriculum has seven learning areas. In the MATATAG K-10 Curriculum, early grade
levels will have five learning areas: Language, Reading and Literacy, Math, Makabansa, and Good
Manners and Right Conduct.
Implementation Phases
The MATATAG K-10 Curriculum will be rolled out in phases over five years, starting with Kindergarten
and Grades 1, 4, and 7 in the school year 2024-2025.
Mother Tongue Learning:
The new curriculum will continue using the mother tongue as the medium of instruction, but it will no
longer be taught as a separate subject.
Senior High School MATATAG Curriculum:
The curriculum for senior high school is still under review, with completion expected by next year
Feedback and Revisions:
DepEd released a draft of the K to 10 curriculum guide before its finalization to gather stakeholder
feedback. This collaborative approach ensured the curriculum was refined based on diverse perspectives
and expert insights.
The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary
education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to
provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare
graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and
entrepreneurship.
