1.0. SCOPE

1.1. This Method Statement covers the essential requirements for surface
preparation, application, workmanship and materials for painting.

1.2. This Method Statement the industrial requirements of painting for Re-
painting Pipe & Support / Touch Up.

1.3. Painting shall include surface preparation, priming, intermediate and


finish coatings, inspection, touch-up and cleaning, as indicated on the
painting schedule data sheets.

2.0. APPLICABLE ITEMS

2.1. Hand Tool Cleaning / Power Tools Cleaning Painting For Maintenance
Work.

3.1 - Portable Generator

5.0. PAINTING WORK.

5.1. General

5.1.1 Coating application, including mixing and thinning shall be in


strict accordance with the manufacturer’s painted
instructions.

5.1.2 All paint shall be well mixed, stirred frequently and thinned
or strained if necessary, all in accordance with the
manufacturer’s recommendation. Addition of thinner beyond
that recommended by the manufacturer shall not be
permitted.

5.1.3 All coats of paint shall be applied by brush and roller. Such
methods of application shall be in meet with the paint
manufacturer’s method of application and in meet with local
labour practices.

5.1.4 All coats shall be applied in such a manner as to produce a


film of uniform smoothness. Special attention shall be given
to crevices, weld lines, corners, edges, etc., to obtain the
required thickness.

5.1.5 Where two or more coats are specified, sufficient time shall
be allowed between coats to permit hard drying. A minimum
of 24 hours to be allowed between applications, unless
otherwise specified by the manufacturer.

5.1.6 When work is complete, all masking, grease, etc., shall be


removed from the equipment. All residue, oil and grease, etc.,
shall be removed with a suitable solvent or cleaner as
required.

5.2. Scaffolding

5.2.1. All activities painting work at height elevation ( + 1.8M ) must


be install Scaffolding.

5.3. Surface Preparation

5.3.1. All substrate before surface preparation must be free from


contamination ( Mill Scale, Oil, Grease, and Dust )

5.3.2. Protection bearing by masking tape to protect over blast or over


painting before surface preparation & painting activities.

5.3.3. Surface preparation of all steel surface shall be done by one of


the following methods and in accordance with the “SSPC SP 2” (

5.4. Painting Application

5.4.1. Primer coat shall be applied to steel surfaces the same day the
surface is prepared or before corrosion or recontamination
occurs.

5.4.2 Intermediate coat shall be applied as per Technical Data Sheet.

5.4.3 Apply Top Coat as per specification.

5.5. Conditions Prohibiting Application on Metal Surfaces.

5.5.1 Application shall not be made to wet, damp, or contaminated


surfaces, or in rains, snow, fog, mist or excessive dust.

5.5.2 Application shall not be made under atmospheric conditions that


causes condensation rather than ecaporation of moisture from the
surface to be coated. This may be tested by wiping a damp cloth
on the surface to be painted. The surface may be coated if the
moisture streaks dry within five minutes.

5.6. Coating Film Thickness

The minimum dry film thickness specified to the various coatings is


shown in the painting systems. Dry film measurements shall be taken
with a Mikrotest dry film gauge or approved equal.

5.7. Clean-Up.

5.7.1. Waste paint materials shall not be disposed of in plumbing


fixtures, drains, or ditches.
Waste paint materials shall be moved from the site in suitable
containers.

5.7.2. Wiping rags, waste, etc., shall be stored in covered containers at


all times until final disposition by burning, or removal from the
site is approved.

5.7.3. Upon completion of all painting work, retouch all finished work
wherever necessary or directed. Remove daubs or splatters of
paint and varnish from all walls, floors, hardware and other
adjacent surfaces.

6.0. INSPECTION

6.1. Materials and equipment furnished by contractor in inspection and


approval by PT.Shell Gresik Terminal.

6.2. Inspection shall be performed on part or all items using visual


examination and/or approved inspection instruments. Gauges used for
measuring thickness shall be clibrated on common test block for
accuracy and consitency.
