02A Career Choices

What three factors do you consider most important in choosing a career and why? Write in 1-2
complete sentences.

1.Consider what are the professional opportunities of the career you are doing, since it is what
you are going to work on throughout your life.

2. What subjects are included in the course and if you are good at them. If you know that your
career has a subject that you hate you should reconsider studying that career.

3. How many years of your career are you going to study. For example, medicine has many more
years of study than other university careers.
Make a list of three costs related to choosing one career over another.

1. Residence costs: When choosing a career it is very important to take into consideration
where the college is located and if you will have to study abroad. If your career isn’t in
your city you will have to live away from home and that is expensive.

2. Time costs: Some careers may require more years of dedication such as medicine and you
will have to sacrifice some of your time.

3. Educational costs: Some careers need more materials than others or require some specific
title from one language so will have to pay for the classes and the exam cost to receive
that title.

Write 2-3 sentences explaining WHY a person would choose a degree that makes less money
over a degree that makes more money.

A person would choose a career that he/she likesbut that will give him/her little money in the
future rather than a career that gives him/her more money because he/she has to study that
career for many years and if you choose a career that you do not like, it will cost you more to
study. Furthermore, in the future, the person will probably regret studying a career that he/she
does not like. The most important thing is not always the money and in this case, the happiness of
the person is essential.

Budget Reflection
1. Did you have enough money for all of your expenses?
2. What expenses did you have to cut out completely?
3. What did you have to budget for that you did not expect?
4. What did you learn from this activity?

First of all, I don’t have too many expenses and I try to save my money most of the time. My
expenses are usually clothes, some sweets, concert tickets, make-up and cinema tickets and I
normally have enough money for all my expenses since I go shopping once a month more or less.

On the other hand, last year I was spending too much money on music vinyl but they are very
expensive so I have to cut them out completely. Also, I had to budget for buying some concert
tickets for Taylor Swift. There were a lot of different prices and I had to budget but I didn’t expect
it.

In conclusion, I have learned that it is very important to be happy and study what you like rather
than study a career that will give you more money. Money is not always gonna make you happy
and sometimes we need to have a budget and don’t spend money without thinking. The best
sensation is when you receive money for something you like to do.
