Kindly follow this sequence of works for Roof waterproofing:

1. Storage and handling of materials as per manufacturer’s recommendation.
 All materials whether loose or on pallets to be stored in a covered area and protected
from
UV and sunlight. Damage to the membrane may be caused due to improper storage
and at high temperatures.
 Materials shall be placed in a way to avoid the direct contact with ground soil.
 All materials should be stored in a shaded area. Do not stack one pallet on top of the
other.
It is advisable not to remove the shrink-wrap until the time of application.
 Materials shall not be exposed to the fire or flames in any circumstances.

2. Required WIR will be carried out after the membrane has been laid torched and
seamed.

10.2 METHOD:

10.2.1. METHOD FOR ROOFING (DOUBLE LAYER CONVENTIONAL SYSTEM)

Surface preparation:

Prior to any installation, the area to be waterproofed will be carefully checked. All substrate
should confirm to general standards of civil Engineering as follow:

 The concrete surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, traces of
curing compound, oil, grease.
 All surface imperfections and protrusions are be removed and repaired. Structurally
unsound and friable concrete must be removed and repaired with a suitable concrete repair
mortar.
 All sharp edges that are likely to puncture the membranes must be removed.
 The deck must be inspected carefully by the waterproofing contractor. Prior to approval
on the surface preparation inspection request as a condition for Engineer Approval to
ensure that its condition is satisfactory for the waterproofing work to proceed accordingly.

Concrete
 Concrete surfaces to be waterproofed must be clean, dry, smooth and free of any oil,
grease, protruding nails, wires or sharp edges. All internal angles must be smoothly
finished with cement sand fillet and external angles to be chamfered.
 A 40mm x 40mm angle fillet-triangular in section shall be formed at all corners,
protrusions, and up stands to enable proper dressing of membrane (by Main
Contractor). Any cracks appearing on the surface shall be repaired using cement
mortar/approved material (by Main Contractor).

Lightweight Foam Concrete

 The surface of the base slab shall be thoroughly clean, dry, smooth and free of
matter.
 Verify that lightweight concrete screed 1% slopes positively to drains.
 Ensure all items to be installed on the roof which require penetrations through the roof
membrane are placed prior to the application of the membrane.
 Before laying the screed, cement slurry shall be brushed across the surface.
 The screed shall be finished smooth to receive further finish as specified.
 The thickness of screed shall be determined in the approved shop drawing.

 Screed shall be finished to a hard and dense surface free from pinholes and
imperfections.
 Screed surface shall be kept moist as per project specifications.
 Saw cut or hand edges trowel tooled control joints shall be provided where indicated
in the shop drawing.
 After completing curing period, control joints shall be cleaned and filled with grout as
per manufacturer’s recommendation.
 If any cracks occur in substrates and prior to the laying of finish materials, shall rout
out, grind, level as necessary, and fill flush with grout as per manufacturer’s
recommendations.
 All types of vehicular or foot traffic shall be prohibited on screed during setting.
 The top of screed surface shall be cleaned, dry and free from cracks.
 Screed top surface shall be carefully cleaned and all dust shall be removed before
adhesive application.

Priming - (Polyprime SB)

 Ensure that surface areas shall be dry, free from dust, loose or badly adhered particles
and any dirt in general, including any pity or anti-adherent remains prior to proceed
application.
 Primer can be applied on smooth. However, it is not advisable to apply the product on
very polished surfaces, i.e. burnished or glazed, as these would have to be slightly
roughened prior to application.
 Hollows and unevenness must be repaired with cement, mortar to obtain an even
surface.
 A bituminous primer applied to the concrete surface on horizontal & vertical surfaces to
receive waterproofing membrane.
 Application of primer is supplied ready to use and is cold applied using a brush or roller.
 Torching of the membrane can proceed the following day (24 hours) after application
of primer or when the primer is achieving touch dry characteristics.

Application of 4mm 180gsm Bituminous Membrane - (Bituplus P)

 Prior to commencement of waterproofing works the primer on substrate is to be

inspected and approved.

 The membrane is torched to the primed substrate horizontally and vertically and shall
be done by competent personnel supervision (by LFC) and as per manufacturer’s
recommendation.
 Application of first layer of 4mm 180gsm bituminous membrane over applied primer on
horizontal and vertical surface in strict compliance with manufacturer’s
instruction/recommendation.
 Application of second layer of 4mm 180gsm bituminous membrane over applied primer
on horizontal and vertical surface in strict compliance with manufacturer’s
instruction/recommendation.
 The membrane rolls must be properly aligned observing at all times the overlap
dimensions must be 10cm and end laps 10cm and staggered.
 Torching can proceed only after the inspection of all overlaps and of any accidental
damage to the membrane itself.
 Proper checking of all welded overlaps will be done by Leaders Fort technician. Any
gaps in overlaps will be re-torched.
 A separate operation will then proceed by seaming all the overlaps by running down a
heated spatula along the edge of the top layer. This spatula treatment will not damage
the waterproofing system.
 The installed membrane will be cordoned off by Main Contractor and no trespassing
will be allowed unless authorized by Leaders Fort Supervisor.
 Unauthorized entry shall be restricted to the waterproofing areas.

Inspection of Membrane:
An inspection will be carried out after the membrane has been laid torched and seamed.
Complete waterproofing inspection request (WIR) shall be submitted prior to proceed with
water leak test.

Water Test: (by Main Contractor)

After the final inspection, the roof will be flooded with water for a depth of 50mm for 48
hours. Roof drains, of course, will have to be plugged prior to the flooding. Upon
successful completion of the test, the water will be drained off and the membrane allowed
to dry off before subsequent materials are placed upon it. A water test form will be signed
off and submitted.

Any leaks resulting from the test shall be located and repaired (if any). The test shall be
repeated until the roof is completely watertight if found any leakage or damage. Prior to
concealing the waterproofing membrane, IR shall be raised for approval. All subsequent
works shall be carried out only after getting written approval.

On completion of successful flood test and draining out the water, the next components of
the system like extruded polystyrene boards, separation layers, etc will follow.

10.2.2. METHOD FOR RE-ROOFING/EXISTING WATEPROOFED ROOFS (SINGLE

LAYER OVER EXISTING SYSTEM)

Application of 4mm 180gsm Bituminous Membrane - (Bituplus P)

 Prior to commencement of waterproofing works, the area must be cleared, whole build
up must be temporarily removed. (thermal insulation, filtration layer and finishing tiles
or gravel)
 The membrane is torched to the existing installed waterproofing membrane horizontally
and vertically and shall be done by competent personnel supervision (by LFC) and as
per manufacturer’s recommendation.
Any

clean and all defects rectified.
 Once the waterproofing membrane is completed, inspected, tested and approved,
installation of extruded polystyrene may proceed.
 The extruded polystyrene insulation boards shall be loose laid chiplap edge and
tightly butted.
