MALIN KUNDANG

Once upon a time on the sweet beach of Padang, West Sumatra, there was a widow named Mande
Rubayah, the widow had a son named Malin Kundang.

Malin Kundang was very loved by his mother because his father had lived with him since he gave him
birth. Malin Kundang has grown up and he feels he must be able to change his family’s economic life.
One day Malin Kundang found out that there was a large ship leaning on the Air Manis beach, he was
interested in traveling with the ship.

Malin Kundang: “My mother wants to change our fate”

Mande rubayah: “how?”

Malin Kundang: “This morning I saw a ship lying on the village beach so I was going to wander via
that ship”

Mande Rubayah: “Do you have the heart to leave your old mother alone?”

Malin Kundang: “Malin Kundang also doesn’t have the heart, but Malin Kundang also wants to
change our fate and become rich. Malin Kundang is tired of living in poverty all the time Mom”

Mande rubayah: “if that’s your wish, mother also wants you to become a rich and successful person,
I can only pray that you will succeed. When will you leave, my child?”

Malin Kundang: “leaving tomorrow ma’am”

Mande Rubayah: “How soon do you want to leave mother alone?”

Malin Kundang: “Yes ma’am, pray that you reach your destination safely”

The next day, the toys and their mother went to their village beach where the big ship was docked.

Mande rubayah: “be careful Malin Kundang, mother’s prayers will always be with you”

Malin Kundang : “good mom wait for Malin Kundang to come home with enough wealth for both of
us”

Malin Kundang left for the nomadic lands. Meanwhile, Malin Kundang’s mother lives in the village of
Air Manis Beach.

When he arrived at his overseas location, Malin Kundang started working and was continuously
monitored, apparently Malin Kundang was more active and diligent compared to the others. Until
then the daughter of the owner of the job named Putri came and saw the new employee, and
apparently Putri was also amazed by Malin Kundang’s beautiful face and his crafts until finally Putri
fell in love at first sight.

Daughter: “who is that employee, very diligent and handsome, should I just ask my father”
The daughter also asked her father

Daughter: “Father, who is this employee? Diligent and handsome?”

Saudgar: “ohh that name is malin kundang, what’s wrong?

Daughter: “nothing daddy, just asking”

Since that day, Putri was increasingly amazed and in love with Malin Kundang, Putrih always watched
Malin Kundang secretly.

After working for 2 years for Putri’s father, Malin Kundang was already a rich man because he was
always diligent at work. Malin Kundang Putri’s relationship was even closer until they finally married.

A month after marriage Malin Kundang and Putri went to trade in the sweet water beach village.
When Malin Kundang and Putri arrived at the village, Malin Kundang met his mother.

Mande Rubayah: “Malin Kundang, malin Kundang (screaming), malin Kundang my son, you’ve come
back son. I really miss you.”

Putri: “Who are you, old woman? Dare to be my husband’s mother?”

Mande Rubayah: “I am Malin Kundang’s mother.”

Malin Kundang: “Are you crazy? I never had a poor, old mother like you.”

Mande Rubayah: “This is your mother son, I was the one who gave birth and raised you, why are you
like this??”

Daughter: “My husband doesn’t have a mother who is poor, old and dirty like you”

Malin Kundang: “You are not my mother!! Stay away from me, old woman (while pushing Made and
immediately leaving his mother)

Then the mother cried sadly, the child she gave birth to and raised did not acknowledge her. Her
tears welled up. Malin Kundang immediately went to the village.

Mande Rubayah: oh God, why is my only child like that? I gave birth and raised him, O Allah. Give
your warning, indeed he is a disobedient child!!”

Suddenly in the middle of the journey, a storm came, the wind blew hard, the sea waves rose,
lightning flashed, the ship was shaken.

Malin Kundang: “What is this??? The storm is so big”

Suddenly lightning struck Malin Kundang

Malin Kundang: “Aaaaaaaaaaaacccccccckkkkkkhhhh......!!!!!!!!!”

And at that moment Malin Kundang turned into a stone. Malin Kundang turned himself into stone as
a result of disobeying his mother. Therefore, we must not be disobedient to our parents, especially
disobedient to our mother
