Nararator : In ancient times in Air Manis Beach, West Sumatera, there was a widow named Mande
Rubayah. The widow had a boy named Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang was very dear to his mother since
he was young because he was left by his father. Lain Kundang had already grown up and he felt that he
should be able to change the economic life of his family. One day, Rashid, one of Malin’s friends knew that
there was a large ship docked on the shore of the Air Manis and he was intended to invite Malin Kundang
to come wandering with him.

Rashid: Good Morning..

Malin: Good Morning.... Oh it is you Rashid, what’s up?

Rashid: There is a good news for bot of us. I had noticed a large ship docked at the Air Manis beach. I
think we can come wandering into the ship, will you come with me or not?

Malin: Wow, what a coincidence! I was also tired of being poor. I want to change the fate. Yes, I’d love to
come with you. So when will we start out?

Rashid: What about tomorrow morning?

Malin: Okay the sooner the better, but I had to ask for the blessing of my mother.

Rashid: Well, I wait for you at the pier at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Malin: Okay, thanks mate.

Narrator : In the evening, Malin Kundang immediately asked for the blessing of his mother who had just
returned to work.

Malin: My mother, I would change our destiny and our life.

Mande: How?
Malin: This morning I was informed by Rashid that there is a ship docked at the beach of our village, so
we both will wander through the ship.

Mande: Malin Kundang, do you really want to leave your old mother alone here in the village?

Malin: Malin actually do not want to leave you alone, but I also want to change our life and become rich. I
feel tired of living in poverty, mom.

Mande: Hmm.. Alright Malin, if it is your wish then it is okay. I want you also to be rich and successful. I
am here only can pray for you to be what you want to be. When will you go, my son?

Malin: I will leave tomorrow morning, mom.

Mande: Is it that soon that you want to leave your mother alone, son?

Malin: Yes, mom. I am very sorry for that. Please pray for me to safely reach the destination.

Narrator : The next day, Malin Kundang accompanied by his mother abd Rashid went to the beach of their
village, where the large vessels were leaning.

Mande: Malin Kundang! My prayers will always be with you.

Malin: Thank you mother! Just wait for me to come home with much money for both of us.

Narrator : Then, Malin Kundang and rashid headed to the ground overseas. Meanwhile, the mother of
Malin Kundang stayed in the village of Air Manis beach. When malin Kundang and Rashid arrived in the
place overseas, they rested in a stall.

Malin: How can we work now?

Rashid: I do not know Malin. I am thinking now.

Narrator : Suddenly, someone in the shop heard the conversation betwen Malin Kundang and Rashid.

The Merchant : Are you really looking for a job?

Rashid: Yes, Sir.

The Merchant : Incidentally, I am looking for 2 people to work. Do you want to work in my place?

Rashid: Of course we want to work. When can we start working, Sir?

The Merchant : You can start working tomorrow morning at my house.

Malin: Where is your house, Sir?

The Merchant : Let’s go with me.

Narrator : Malin Kundang and Rashid joined the merchant going to his house. The merchant rented one
room in his house for Malin Kundang and Rashid. On the next day, they started working and being
watched by the merchant. The appearance of Malin Kundang was more enterprising and industrious than
Rashid and the merchant was aware of it.
Narrator : The daughter of the merchant came to the place where her father worked and saw her father’s
new employees. The appearance of the daughter of the merchant was very amazing and Malin Kundang
caught his first sight to her and they fell in love at first sight.

Daughter : Dad, who is the new employee?

The Merchant : Which one?

Daughter : The industrious and handsome one.

Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang got closer to the daughter of the merchant and they were married.

Narrator : A month after the marriage, Malin Kundang and his wife went to trade their merchandise to Air
Manis beach. When Malin Kundang and his wife arrived at the village, Malin Kundang met Rashid at the
beach.

Malin: Hi Rasyid.

Rashid: Oh Malin! You become so rich now and you are married with the daughter of the merchant!
Congratulations!

Malin: Yes, thank you. You were working undilligently so that is why you have no job now.

Rashid: Yes, you are right.

Malin: Okay, I want to trade my merchandise.. See you.

Rashid: Okay.

Narrator : Hearing the good news, Rashid told Mande that Malin was in the village.

Rashid: Mande, Malin Kundang is back! He is now in the dock!

Mande: Is it true?

Rashid: Yes, Mande. Let’s go there now.

Narrator : Mande and Rashid went to the dock to meet Malin Kundang. Arriving at the dock …
Mande: Malin Kundang! Malin Kundang! My son! You have come back soon. I am your mother. I miss

became bigger, the lightning were flashing, and the vessel was shaken.

Malin: What is this? The storm is so terrible.

Malin: Aaaaaarghhhh!!!!

Narator : Once upon a time, there lived an old woman with her son, named Malin. They lived suffered
and because they were very poor, for daily lived, Malin caught the fish at the sea or found the firewood at
the forest nearby and then sold it at the City, although they were poor they lived happily. One day, Malin
wanted to change their fortune.

Mom : “Malin, come here son, help me to carry this firewoods.”

Malin : “Yes mom, wait a minute.” (Malin helped his mother)
Malin : “Mom how long will this last? I want some change.”
Mom : “I don’t know malin, we must be patient and don’t stop praying to God.”
Malin : “Mom, I have an idea, would you let me go away to change my fortune? Who knows I will be a
rich man.”
Mom: ...

Narator : Malin and his mother come back to the home, but his Mother just kept silent about his idea.
After they had arrived at home

Malin : “Mom, how about my idea?”

Mom : “I think it’s not good idea my son, because if you go, who will Watch me here, don’t you love me,
Malin.”

Dayat : “what? if you go, who will Watch your mother here.”
Malin : “for this I come to you, I want to you watch my mother until I come back, please.”
Dayat : “yes, certainly. My message for you, don’t forget we in here, Malin.”

Narator : In a next day, Malin’s mother accompaneid her son to the harbour...

Mom : ” Take care your self, and hurry up come back!

Malin : ” Yes mom, please pray for me, so that I can be a rich man. And You Dayat Please take care my
mother until I come back.”
Dayat : “Don’t worry Malin. I promise, I will take care your mother. Be careful.”
Mom : “good bye my son.”
Dayat : “Good bye, Malin.”
Narator : Finally, Malin went for sailing with a rich man. In the ship, the Captain gave him a job as
crew,and Malin received the job. The captain has the beautiful daughter. Malin active worked so much. He
worked without know tired.Malin always think the owner’s daughter. Her name is Ningrum. She is very
beautiful.

Malin : “She is very beautiful. I like her and I must marry her. If that something Happen, I will be a rich
man.”
Ningrum : “why, do you look for my dad?
Malin : “ehmmmmm, I don’t know. Maybe he is go to kitchen.”
Ningrum : “thanks for your information.”
Malin : “you’re welcome.”

Narator : In the village, mom very concerned about Malin’s life. And mom afraid if Malin not came back.

Mom : “Dayat, where is Malin? I miss my son. I am afraid if Malin not come back.”
Dayat : “don’t be afraid, Mom. Malin will come back. He had promised to come back. Be patient, Mom.
I’m in here. Don’t be concerned.”
Mom : “yes, Dayat.”

Narator : One day, the captain called malin, because he will rised Malin’s job become as captain in that
ship. A few years later, Malin has became a rich man

Malin : “haha, now, I am a rich man. I can buy everything with my money. Now I must marry with
Ningrum.

Narator : Malin’s mom very miss her son. Mom tired for waited Malin came back. Dayat always give
support for Malin’s mom that Malin will came back and was a rich man.

Dayat : “Don’t sad, Mom.”

Mom : “I am tired, Dayat. I am tired for waiting Malin come back. We never get a news about Malin.”
Dayat : “I trust mom, Malin will come back and be a rich man.
Mom : “are you sure, Dayat?”
Dayat : “yes, mom. Don’t sad again mom J”

Narator : After Malin has became a rich man, Malin married with the captain daughter, Ningrum. They
are very happy. They are a romantic couple.

Malin : Hello, my honey, what about you think?

Ningrum : My husband,shall we go on trip to island for honeymoon?
Malin : That’s good idea my wife, how about Dua Angsa Island?
Ningrum : Okay my husband, I agree with you!
Malin : Okay! if you agree, we will start tomorrow.

Narator : Tomorrow, Malin and his wife sailed to Dua Angsa Island. On their way, Malin’s ship stop in an
island to top up Their supplies. Fortunatelly, that Island was Malin’s village. When arrived, Malin go out
from his ship. Dayat saw Malin in the harbour.

Dayat : “ Malin... Is that Malin? Yeah, that’s Malin. I must tell it to his mother.”

Narator : Dayat went to house for ask Mom about Malin came back. Dayat is very happy about Malin
came back. If the Mom know about this news, she was happy.

Dayat : “Mom...Mom...”
Mom : “I’m here Dayat.”
Dayat : “Mom, Malin come back. He has become a rich man now!”
Mom : “Are you sure that you look is Malin?”
Dayat : “Yes, I’m sure mom, impossible I can’t forget his face. I still remember his Face.”
Mom : “If you right, please accompany me to go there.”

Narator : And Dayat accompanied Malin’s mother to her son. When Reached There, Malin’s mother meet
his son.

Mom : “Malin... Malin my son! Malin....”

Ningrum : “Who is that old woman, my husband?”

Narator : (After pushing his mother away, Malin came back to his ship)

Mom : Malin... Malin... Don’t leave your mother Malin...! My God, how could you say that? I can’t take
his any more. I curse you... Turn into a stone...!!'

Narator : After that, suddenly coming storm destroying Malin’s ship,flash of Lightning coming to his
body. And...

Malin : What’s happening? My body... I can’t move! Mom... I’m sorry mom... I’m sorry...!!
Ningrum: What’s happening...?? What’s happen to you, my husband? Why...??!!M ALINNNNNNN!!!!!

Narator : And Malin became a stone when he was begging to his mother. Ship,crew and his wife sunk
down to boottom of the sea. That’s result if we rebellious to our parents especially to our mother.
