Dear Parent or Guardian,

My name is Kayla Grimsley and I am excited to welcome your child to my World History class
this year. I have a lot of interesting assignments, projects, and lectures planned for this year, and
I hope that your child enjoys learning this year.

I studied Social Sciences and Mass Communication as a double major at the University of Texas
at Tyler. Due to the spectrum of my studies, I can incorporate multiple disciplines into how I
teach history. I sprinkle in Anthropology, Geography, and Sociology to broaden student’s
understanding so that they are able to make connections between the classroom and the outside
world.

To prepare students for success in the classroom and life after they graduate, I have a few
procedures for them to follow. The first procedure occurs at the beginning of class. Students will
need to grab any papers off the table near the door. These papers can include bellringers,
assignments, and note pages. Students will sit down in their assigned seats and read the
instructions on the board. If there is a bellringer, they will start on that.

The second procedure pertains to students leaving during class. Students will use hand signals to
indicate where they want to go. I will either confirm that they can leave with a thumbs up or put
my pointer finger up to indicate that they need to wait.

The final procedure is for the end of class. I will tell students that class is about to end two to
three minutes before the bell is supposed to ring. They should take this opportunity to put their
stuff away. They should remain seated after they are finished packing to be released.

I appreciate the opportunity to work with your child. If you need to contact me for any reason,
you may do so by calling the school or emailing me at kgrimsley@school.com. Welcome to a
knew school year at School High School!

Sincerely,

Kayla Grimsley
