Explain
which type of bond K and Cl will form. Give your reasoning.
2. Mrs. Roberts, who is in a diabetic coma, has just been admitted to the Hospital. Her blood
pH indicates that she is in severe acidosis (blood pH in the acid range), and the medical staff
quickly institute measures to bring her blood pH back within normal limits. Note the normal
pH of blood, and discuss why severe acidosis is a problem.
- A.-pH is defined as the measurement of the hydrogen ion concentration in a solution. The
normal blood pH IS 7.4.
- B. Severe acidosis is critical because it can adversely affect cell membranes, the muscle
contraction, and neural activity.
3. Stephen wants to bring some changes in his diet in order to make it more heart healthy. His
friend advises him to choose the fats in his diet correctly. How can he improve his intake of
fats? Why are some fats good for the heart and some are not?
-The worse type of dietary fat is the type known as trans fat. It is a by-product of a procedure
called hydrogenation that is used to convert good oils into solids to keep them from being
rancid. Trans fats have no known health advantages and there is no acceptable level of intake.
Healthy fats primarily come from fruits, nuts , seeds and fish. They differentiate from
saturated fats by having less hydrogen atoms bound to their carbon strings. Good fats are
liquid at room temperature and not solid. There are two broad types of beneficial fats:
monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat. Omega-3 fatty acids can help prevent and treat
heart disease and stroke. In addition to lowering blood pressure, increasing HDL and lowering
triglycerides, polyunsaturated fats can help prevent the development of lethal heart rhythms.
Stephen should eat more of fruits, nuts, seeds and fish because it has a good fats that can’t
harm his diet. Also I recommend to him that he should start doing exercises.
