War Guilt Clause – Germany and
her allies had to accept total
responsibility for starting the war
Reparations – Germany had to
accept liability for reparations, the
amount of which would be decided
by a Reparations Commission
Disarmament
i.e. army was to be restricted to 100,
000 with no draft; no tanks,
armored vehicles, or heavy artillery
were permitted; no air force; the
navy was to be restricted to 6
battleships, 12 destroyers, 6 light
cruisers, 12 torpedo boats, and no
submarines.
Rhineland was to become a
demilitarized zone with no German
troops or fortifications allowed in
the area. Allied army of occupation
on the west bank of the Rhine for 15
years.
Germany was to lose all of her
colonies in Africa and the Far East
Alsace-Lorraine was to be returned
to France
Eupen, Malmedy, and Moresnet
were to be transferred to Belgium;
North Schleswig was to be
transferred to Denmark; West
Prussia, Posen, and parts of Upper
Silesia were to be transferred to
Poland; Hultschin was to be
transferred to Czechoslovakia

Explain how it directly punishes Germany and the
effect it will have on the nation?
The War Guilt Clause humiliated Germany and made the nation angry
because most of the population believed they were in the right, as well
as there being no war guilt clause imposed on Austria Hungary.
Reparations, which were decided by the council of four, punished
Germany by forcing them to pay for the damages they caused during the
war. The reparations would destroy the German economy leading to
mass inflation and an economic depression.
The disarming of Germany attempted to make sure that Germany
couldn’t attack any other countries again, however it left the nation
vulnerable to attacks and took away most of their ability to defend
themselves.
The Rhineland DMZ prevented Germany from establishing a military in
the area, and had to allow allied occupation in the area. This affected the
nation by restricting its military and making it vulnerable as well as
humiliating the country by having allied troops in their borders.
This would punish Germany by shrinking its land claims even more, and
cut off parts of its economy which worsened the already damaged
economy.
With this region returning to France it further shrank Germanys territory,
and humiliated the nation by returning the land that Germany annexed
back to France.
This undid all of Germanys progress that they gained during the war and
again shrank its borders back to their original size.
This punished Germany because they lost a seaport, and it affected the
nation since it was a largely German city and it was lost.
