Crafting a thesis on Aristotle's concept of friendship is a challenging endeavor that demands

meticulous research, critical analysis, and profound understanding of both Aristotle's philosophical
works and the broader scholarly discourse on friendship. Delving into Aristotle's nuanced
exploration of friendship requires a deep dive into his ethical theories, his understanding of human
nature, and his philosophical framework.

One of the primary difficulties in writing a thesis on this topic lies in deciphering Aristotle's complex
writings on friendship, which are scattered throughout his works, including the "Nicomachean
Ethics" and the "Eudemian Ethics." Navigating through these texts while extracting and synthesizing
relevant passages is no small feat, often requiring a keen eye for detail and a comprehensive grasp of
Aristotle's philosophical terminology and arguments.

Furthermore, analyzing Aristotle's conception of friendship necessitates engaging with a wide range
of secondary sources, including scholarly articles, commentaries, and interpretations spanning
centuries of philosophical discourse. Integrating these diverse perspectives into a coherent and
insightful thesis requires careful consideration and critical evaluation of the various scholarly
viewpoints and interpretations.

Another challenge lies in interpreting Aristotle's views on friendship within the context of his broader
ethical framework. Understanding how friendship fits into Aristotle's conception of the good life,
virtue ethics, and the teleological structure of human flourishing requires rigorous philosophical
inquiry and scholarly rigor.

Moreover, crafting a thesis on Aristotle's friendship entails formulating a clear and compelling
argument that contributes meaningfully to the existing scholarship on the topic. This entails
identifying gaps or inconsistencies in the literature, proposing original insights or interpretations, and
supporting these claims with rigorous analysis and evidence from Aristotle's texts and relevant
scholarly sources.

similarities in his definition and concept of true friendship but when Aristotle has not mentioned
anything but virtue as the prime element of to determine the delight, intimacy and rank of friendship,
Cicero believes that, it is the time, which makes the difference in friendship. For, how can Aristotle

Specifically, I point to two observations in the Nicomachean account of friendship that suggest that
friendship isn’t a source of selfless motivation for virtuous people—that friendship dissolves with
distance and that friends do not wish their friends to become gods—and one observation that
suggests that virtuous friends do not benefit each other selflessly tout court—that friendship requires
an equal return of benefit in order to preserve itself. This paper will analyze Aristotle's arguments on

last analysis friendship seems to aim at universal values instead of being directed to the valuable
individuality of our friends. Lorraine Pangle argues that the difficulties surrounding this discussion
are soon dispelled once one understands the purpose of the Ethics as both a source of practical
guidance for life and a profound, theoretical investigation into human nature. The paper explores the

psychological eudaimonism—namely, that virtuous people act selflessly, especially in relation to their
friends—and that he responds to this challenge by declaring that the (observable) “facts” disagree
with these popular “speeches.” I then argue that some of the facts that he has in mind can be found
