Introduction 1
1.Introduction This chapter describes how the various software and parameters of these
units can be updated or edited from an MS WindowsTM based PC, and
the software required.
Two types of software can be downloaded from the Husqvarna Sup-
port Site:
PC applications
– for managing uploads or adjusting firmware options to ma-
chine devices or Control terminal.
– downloadable from the Husqvarna Support Site.
Runtime system & Firmware
– control programs required for various system devices, such as
machine modules or remote terminal.
– before upgrading, please refer to the relevant service bulletin
or release note. A firmware upgrade may not be relevant to the
system control device concerned.
– for information on the latest version of runtime system, firm-
ware and parameter files available for Machine Controller
modules (PLC), Control Terminal and Bluetooth® radio
module, please refer to the Husqvarna Support Site.
Special cables and adaptors are required for connecting the PC with Ma-
chine Controller modules, Control Terminal and Bluetooth® radio
module. These are displayed under the Tools section (last chapter). All
these parts can be orders from Husqvarna.

Software and drivers installation
Some special software tools and drivers are required on a PC in order to main-
tain or upgrade the machine's Controller modules EPEC®.
CANMOON SOFTWARE
CANmoon lite (or CANmoon) is officially free for everyone who develops applications for
Epec modules).
With the CANmoon software you can perform the following tasks from a PC:
• Transfer firmware to machine Control modules
• Change module node id
• Scan for nodes on the CAN bus
• Display CAN communication
Install CANmoon lite (or CANmoon) software on PC:
1. The CANmoon software can be found in “Installation Package for CAN-
moon.zip”. This zip-file is part of the software installation package that is
available for download from Husqvarna Support Site.
2. Unzip the file to a temporary folder
3. Install the CANmoon software by executing the file “install_CANmoon.exe”
4. CANmoon can now be started by executing the file “CANmoon.exe”, which is
located in the folder where CANmoon is installed
v1.2.2 3
2 Machine controller modules
Connecting Controller
modules to PC
A PC with the necessary programs installed
(see previous page), is used to transfer software
Any PLC module: to Controller modules via their CAN bus in-
2020, 2024 or 2038 terface. The required hardware is supplied by
Husqvarna, see Tools section of this manual.
II. OUTSIDE MACHINE
Single controller method
Individual modules can be programmed
without being connected to the machine
CAN bus. In this case, connect the PC dir-
ectly to one single Controller module. An ex-
ternal 24V power supply is required.
1. Connect the female connector of the Y-
cable to the Controller module
2. Connect CAN cable to one of the male
connectors of the Y-cable
3. Connect CAN—USB adapter to CAN-
cable
4. Connect CAN—USB adapter to PC
5. Connect Power Supply cable to the re-
maining Y-cable male connector and
the banana plugs to external 24V sup-
ply
III. INSIDE MACHINE (2020-MODULES)
(a) Single controller method
First, unplug the CAN cable from the
Controller module not to be pro-
grammed.
– Then, follow step 1—5 of “Dual Con-
troller method” below:
(b) Dual controller method
The PC can be connected and communicate
directly to both Controller modules, Master
(M) and Slave (S) via the machine CAN bus:
– both Controller modules must be present,
with individual Node IDs (see page 6)
– at least one of the Controller modules
must have functioning software on board
1. Replace the 8 pin CAN connector in
one of the Controller modules with the
female Y-cable connector
2. Connect CAN cable to one of the male
connectors of the Y-cable
3. Connect CAN—USB adapter to CAN-
serial cable
4. Connect CAN—USB adapter to PC
5. Connect the replaced CAN connector
to the remaining male Y-cable connect-
or
N.B. Before connecting or dis-
connecting any CAN cables, al-
ways switch off machine (or dis-
connect from external power
source). Otherwise the Controller
modules may be damaged.
Do not use external power supply
when a Controller module is con-
nected to the machine CAN bus.
This can interfere with the ma-
chine's power supply.
4 v1.2.2
Machine controller modules 2
2038-MODULE
1. Replace the 8 pin CAN connector of the
2038 Controller module (Slave) with the
female Y-cable connector
2. Connect CAN cable to one of the male
connectors of the Y-cable
3. Connect CAN—USB adapter to CAN-
serial cable
4. Connect CAN—USB adapter to PC
5. Unplug CAN connector from 2024 mod-
ule (Master)
6. Connect the replaced CAN connector to
the remaining male Y-cable connector

Control terminal 3
3.Control terminal
Software and drivers
installation
A special software tool needs to be in-
stalled on the PC from which the control
terminal is to be maintained or upgraded.
SAM-BA
(As far as the customer does not remove the dis-
claimer that the user has to accept during install-
ation, anybody can reuse SAM-BA and deliver
it to a final user).
SAM-BA software is used to transfer new
Husqvarna firmware from PC to the Con-
trol terminal unit.
SAM-BA installation
1. Unzip content of the file “Installation
Package for SAM-BA.zip” to a temporary
folder (this zip-file is part of the soft-
ware installation package, available for
download from Husqvarna Support
Site)
2. Install the Sam-ba software by open-
ing:
(a) sam-ba_2.12.exe
(b) sam-ba_2.12_patchX.exe
– refer to the “User guide” included
in the zip-file.
The first time you connect the hardware,
Windows™ may ask you to install suitable
drivers:
– Do not let Windows search for
drivers at the MS Windows
homepage!
– Select the option to search your
local PC-system. (the Sam-ba
software must already be in-
stalled)
Managing Control
terminal software
Connecting PC to terminal circuit board
can be done by the following methods:
OLDER MODELS
To control terminal circuit board
Open interior of remote control terminal:

see previous pages.
Assign address of machine Bluetooth® radio
module to terminal Bluetooth® radio module:
To establish wireless machine operation, the
Bluetooth® radio modules of terminal and ma-
chine have to be mated. This is done by entering the
unique address of the machine Bluetooth® radio
module into the terminal Bluetooth® radio mod-
ule. This address is printed on a label at the bottom
side of the machine Bluetooth® radio module “BT-
Addr.:”, e.g. 123456789ABC
Write BT-Address to the Terminal Bluetooth®
radio module:
1. Start the program CANlink Bluetooth Configurat-
or
2. Select the port to which the terminal
Bluetooth® radio module is connected. You
may have to switch the terminal OFF and ON
to establish connection.
– This may require trying several different
Ports
3. Select the tab “Bluetooth parameters (2)”
– In the “Automatic Bluetooth connection”
area; check “Activate automatic Bluetooth
connection (Bridge mode)” and enter the
Bluetooth® address of the machine
Bluetooth® radio module to which the
