Ex. No. 1 DOUBLE VEE BUTT JOINT
AIM:
To make a double v- butt jointusing arc welding on the given work pieces.
MATERIALREQUIRED:
Mild steel plate ofsize 150 x 50 x 06 mm-2 Nos.
TOOLS REQUIRED:
Power supply (AC or DC), Welding Torch, Electrodes, Tongs, Chipping Hammer,
Wirebrush, Gloves, Apron, Shield, Safety goggles, Earthing clamps.
SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS:
1. Edge preparation (Removal ofrust, scale etc.,) 2. Tacking 3. Welding
4. Cooling 5. Chipping 6. Cleaning
WORKING STEPS:
50 First ofal, the workpiece must be thoroughly cleaned to remove rust, scale and
other foreign material.
150 2. Then the given workpiece are placed in such a way that it form a "V" and an
50
inverted V- Shape when the plates butt each other.
3. Appropriate power supply should be given to the electrode and the workpiece.
4. Now the welding current output may be adjusted.
Double Vee Butt Joint 6. When the curent is passed, arc is produced between the electrode and
workpiece.
6. Set the workpiece in correct position and maintain the gap 3mm and start tack
welding at both ends ofthe workpiece.
7. Nowthe welding is carried out throughout the length.
8. Nowthe partially welded plates are inverted and tacked at both ends ofthe
workpiece.
9. Again the welding is caried outthroughout the length.
10. As soon as the welding process is finished switch
off the current supply allow
the workpiece to cool.
11. Slags are removed by chipping process with the help of chipping hammer.
12. Finally using wire brush welded portions are cleaned with help ofwire brush.
Note: All dimensions are in 'mm'
RESULT: Thus the desired double v- buttjoint is obtained using
are-welding.

2. Now, the workpiece are placed on the table such that two workspaces are
overlapped one over another.
3. Appropriate power supply should begivento the electrode and the workpiece.
4. Nowthe welding current output may be adjusted.
5. Whenthe current is passed, arc is produced
between the electrode and workpiece.
Lap Joint 6. Set the workpiece in corect position like lapjoint and tack at both ends
of the
workpiece.
7. Nowthe welding is caried out throughout the length.
8. Again the welding is carried out throughout the
length another side.
9. As soon as the welding process is finished switch
off the current supply allow
the workpiece to cool.
10. Slags are removed by chipping process with the help of chippinghammer.
Note: All Dimenslons are in 'mm' 11. Finally using wire brush welded portions are cleaned with help of wire brush.
RESULT: Thus the desi int is obtained using arc-welding.
