Introduction

Fig. 1. Illustration of a sample survey form

In the previous lesson, we discussed audience profiling and its importance for ICT
project proposals. It is also important to emphasize creating and writing the forms used
for profiling. It might be difficult to formulate the survey questions especially when you
are new with the research process. Manual writing of audience profiling forms can be a
burdensome task as well but due to technology it has become easier for us.

This lesson will guide you on how to formulate a basic survey form for audience
profiling using surveying applications available on the internet so that you do not need
to conduct a manual survey.

What do you think is the crucial part of writing an audience profiling form? Are you
familiar with the different platforms you can use in writing it? How do you utilize such
platforms in providing a comprehensive audience profiling form?

Objectives
In this lesson, you should be able to do the following
● Identify the different surveying platforms used for audience profiling.
● Apply the basic audience profiling format using surveying applications.
● Build a basic and simple form for audience profiling.

DepEd Competency
Analyze how target or intended users and audiences are expected to respond to the
proposed ICT Project for Social Change on the basis of content, value, and user experience.

Creating survey forms has become easier, especially now that we are in the new technology
age where lots of applications and software are available in the market. With that, we
should be keen in choosing the best surveying application for us. Search for a video online
on how to create online surveys. Below is an example. After watching a video, answer the
following questions on the next page.

Guide Questions
1. How do you find creating surveys? Is it easy to create online forms?

2. How does this kind of platform help you in creating surveys?

3. How can these surveying applications give you hassle free audience profiling?

Explain and Elaborate

Survey
A survey refers to the process of seeking ideas and opinions towards a specific topic. It can
be in the form of a poll, questionnaire, etc. Usually, surveys are conducted through pen and
paper or an interview with the people who are the target audience for the study. Commonly,
it can be considered as the audience profile in some studies for project proposals. Hence,
not all surveys are regarded as the latter.

Surveying Platforms
There are various surveying platforms available on the internet today, which is a big help to
the researchers in creating survey questionnaires. These platforms can also be used for
creating forms for audience profiling. The following are some of the surveying platforms you
can use in creating necessary forms for audience profiling.

Google Form
Google form is beneficial to students and other people researching for the first time. It
offers basic features that one person can easily access and use. It has a simple interface that
emphasizes the content of the survey questionnaire. Google form makes surveys easier as it
is accessible without purchasing Google Suite but with limited features only.

ProProfs
ProProfs is a survey maker application that provides various templates for surveys and
other forms such as registrations, feedbacks, etc. It offers a trial version where you can
access full features for a limited time allowing users to test other features that are not
available on the free version.

Survey Monkey
A popular surveying application that is used by many is Survey Monkey. This application
offers a free account with necessary features such as drag and drop tools that are useful in
creating a basic form of audience profiling. You can also modify existing templates so you
don’t have to think about the format for your audience profiling form.

SmartSurvey
The best survey application for collaborating work is SmartSurvey. Unlike other survey
applications, this enables the team to add and share questions for their audience profiling
without overriding other members' questions. This feature is very efficient in team
collaboration for a project proposal, especially ICT projects.

How do we utilize these platforms in creating

audience pro ling?

Creating Basic Forms

Audience profiling might be difficult to a starter as they are not familiar with the basic
format of the form they are going to create. Since audience profiling is necessary for project
proposals, it is important to develop a suitable form for the target audience. Hence,
audience profiling might be similar in some ways but has differences when it comes to its
purpose.

Form Sections
In creating forms, sectioning is an efficient way to organize audience profiling, and it will be
easier to collect the data from the accomplished surveys. Sectioning will help avoid
confusion in data interpretation. It is like a letter that has a body to follow.

Overview
The overview must contain the intention of the people or organization in conducting
audience profiling. The audience must understand the purpose of the survey by indicating
the project's main objective, the answer's confidentiality, and the responses' effect on the
project in the overview.

Demographic Information
The standard format of audience profiling forms should have demographic information on
the second part. Demographic data is critical information to collect as it will be the basis of
the surveyor if the project is suitable for a specific race, age, gender, etc. It is not necessary
to indicate the name of the audience. However, the audience's age, location, sex, race, and
other demographic information might be needed and related to the study.

Psychographics Information
Psychographic information is the audience's behavior towards a specific topic emphasized
in the project. Audience profiling may or may not show psychographic information but it
must be included to determine the target audience's opinion towards your project's topic.
Beliefs and attitudes of the audience towards the problem are crucial for the project to push
through.

Familiarization Questions
The familiarization question is the fourth section of the audience profiling form. It aims to
find out the audience's prior knowledge about your topic. This section may use "Yes or No"
questions, rating scale, and open-ended questions. There is no specific number of items for
this section.

Main Questions or Survey Questions

The main question is the fifth section of the audience profiling form. The items in this
section need to be more precise and specific than the familiarization questions because
they need to be in-depth. These questions must also emphasize the main objectives of the
project. The type of items often used in this section are questions seeking agreements or
arguments, opinions, and feedback of the audience. You may use different types of
questions in this section.

Recommendation Section or Closing Section

This section may be the last part of the audience profiling form. Before you close the survey
form, you may want to know the recommendation given by your audience to add more
ideas to the propositions in your project. As such, you will gain more information regarding
the topic and provide more accurate proposals.
