Frida granny square

Materials:
Cotton yarn in colors you like ( I used Anchor creativa fino)
Hook size 2,5 mm (use a hook suitable for your yarn)
Scissors and needle
Textile glue (optional)

Abbreviations (US)
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
St = stitch
Sts = stitches
Hdc = half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
R = round
Inc = increase

Pattern:
Start with skin color
R1: make a magic ring, ch3 (is first dc), 11dc in ring (12)

R2: ch3 (is first dc), dc in same st, 2dc in each st (24)

R3: ch3 (is first dc), dc in same st, dc in next st, (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) repeat ( ) till
end of R, change color in last st.

R4: ch4 (is 1dc and ch1), 2dc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts,
(2dc in next st, ch1, 2dc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts) repeat
( ) 2x, 1dc in same st as the first st of the R. sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch 4, sl st in corner space
and fasten off yarn.

R5: attach new color in any corner space. Ch4 (is 1dc and ch1), ch1, 2dc in same corner
space, dc in every st till next corner; 2dc, ch1, 2dc in corner space. (15dc each side of the
granny) repeat till end of R. 1dc in starting ch space. Sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch4. Sl st in
corner space and fasten off yarn.

R6: attach new color in any corner space. Sc, ch3, sc, ch2, skip next st, (sc in next st, ch2, skip
next st) repeat ( ) till next corner space; (sc, ch3, sc). Repeat all till end of R. sl st and fasten
off yarn.

R7: attach new color in any corner space. Ch5 (is 1dc and ch2), 2dc in same corner space. 2dc
in each ch2 space till next corner, (2dc, ch2, 2dc in corner space, 2dc in each ch2 space till
next corner) repeat ( ) till end of R. 1dc in same st as first st of R. sl st in 3 rd ch of starting
ch 5. Sl st in corner space and fasten off.

Weave in the ends.

Decoration for Frida:

Hair:
Ch20, start in 2nd from the hook: 19sc. Fasten off yarn. Sew or glue to the square.

Small rose (make 3):

Ch10, sc in 2nd ch from the hook, 2dc in next st, (sc in next st, 2dc in next st) repeat ( ) till
end, sl st in last st. fasten off, fold the rose and sew.

Leaf (make 2):

Ch6, sl st in 2nd ch from the hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, 4dc in next ch,
turn slightly to the other side and crochet 3dc more (7 dc in total in same ch), dc in next st,
hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch, fasten off and sew.

Sew or glue the black hair base to the square. Sew or glue the roses and leaves to the
square.
Embroider eyebrow and eyes with black yarn.
Embroider a small mouth with red yarn.

Decorate your Frida granny square as you like!

I used some very small pompoms as earrings and a little bow and cotton rose.
