This Pattern uses

UK Crochet Terms
Yarn
Scheepjes Catona 4ply, 100% Cotton. 125m per 50g
MC: Hot Red (115).

CC1: Apple Granny (513).
CC2: Snow White (106).
CC3: Antique Mauve (257) - This is actually a Beige - used for the Reindeer.
CC4: Petal Peach (263).
CC5: Black Co ee (162).
CC6: Jet Black (110).
A cotton yarn works well for Ami as it gives good stitch de nition and creates a rm structure so
body parts hold their shape well. Catona is a relatively thick 4 ply (US: Sport) - you can substitute a
DK Cotton (US: DK/Light Worsted) with a similar amount of meters per 50g.
These little characters are great for using up odds and ends of yarn. As a rough guide, making the
combined body and head in a single colour would use approximately 15g of Catona 4 ply.
Hook

Tension
24 sts x 27 rows = 10cm measured over dc using 3mm hook.
Tension is not critical for this project but stitches should be tight enough to avoid stu ng showing
through.

Other Supplies
Yarn needle, toy stu ng, stitch marker/waste yarn, scissors.
Size
Combined Body and Head is about 9cm (3.5 in) tall - not including hats, antlers etc.
Pattern Notes
Unless otherwise speci ed this pattern is worked in the amigurumi style, in a continuous spiral
without slip stitching or turning chains.
Use a stitch marker or waste yarn to keep track of the rst stitch of each round.
If you do not want to make a Magic Ring you can start each piece by making a chain of 2 and then
work the rst round into the second chain from the hook.

The characters are made of multiple separate pieces sewn together. Unless otherwise stated, nish
each piece by pulling the yarn through the last loop and leave a long tail for sewing. Any loose tails
at the end can be easily woven in.
UK Crochet Terms - Abbreviations
This pattern is written using UK Crochet Terms - they are NOT the same as US ones - please
familiarise yourself with the UK terms to avoid your character’s shape distorting!
The “dc” abbreviation used in this pattern refers to UK double crochet. The equivalent stitch
in US terms is single crochet - if you are used to US patterns you need to work single crochet
everywhere this pattern says “dc”. If you work US dc (equivalent to UK Treble) the nished
item will be elongated and the stu ng will show through.
This pattern also uses UK htr - half treble - the equivalent US stitch is hdc - half double
crochet and UK tr - treble - the equivalent US stitch is dc - double.

Increasing and decreasing
The “invisible” techniques below are recommended to give your amigurumi a neat nish:
Invisible Increase: Work 1 dc in FLO of next st and 1 dc in both loops of same st.
Invisible decrease: Insert hook in FLO of the two stitches to be decreased, yrh, pull through both
front loops, yrh, draw through two loops on hook.

Basic Body/Head
Used for all 3 characters. Please refer to the individual patterns below for colour changes. Worked
from the bottom upwards. Stu as you go.
Rnd 1: With chosen colour and working into a magic ring, 6 dc. 6 sts
Rnd 2: 2 dc in each st around. 12 sts
Rnd 3: [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] 6 times. 18 sts
Rnds 7-12: Dc around.
Rnd 13: [4 dc, 1 dc2tog] 6 times. 30 sts
Rnd 16: Dc around.
Rnd 27: 6 dc2tog. 6 sts
Fasten o . Using a yarn needle, weave the yarn tail through front loops only of last 6 stitches and
pull up to close hole. Weave in end.
Basic Eyes - make 2

All 3 characters have the same eyes - made with CC6 for the Santa and Elf and with CC5 for the
Reindeer.

Stu the hand as you go - do not stu further up. All 3 characters have the same arms - please refer
to the individual patterns below for the colours/colour changes.

Santa Body & Head

Work the basic Body/Head pattern above, starting with MC. Change to CC4 at the end of Rnd 16.
Santa Beard
Made at then folded in half and joined in the last round.
Rnd 1: With CC2 and working into a magic ring, 6 dc. 6 sts
Rnd 7: 2 dc, then fold in half and working through both layers, work one dc in each st round the half
circle to close. 18 sts

Row 1: Starting in the second ch from hook, 1 sl st, [1 dc, 1 htr] in next st, 1 dc, 1 sl st, rotating as
you go, in the other side of the chain work 1 sl st, 1 dc, [1 htr, 1 dc] in next st, 1 sl st. 10 sts

Santa Berry
Rnd 2: Dc around.
Fasten o . Using a yarn needle, wave the yarn tail through the FLO of the last 4 sts and pull up to
close hole.
Santa - Making Up.

Using the photographs as a guide, pin the pieces together rst, checking from all angles to make
sure you’re happy with the positioning, then use the long yarn tails or a length of yarn with a yarn
needle to stitch the pieces together.
Sew the Nose in place in line with Rnd 19/20 of the Body/Head.
Sew the Beard in place centred under the Nose, attaching it just along the top edge of the Beard.
Sew the Cu s onto the Arms where the colours change.
Sew the Arms either side of the Body, attaching them to Rnd 15/16 of the Body/Head.
Sew the Eyes in place just above the Nose, spaced about 3 stitches apart.
Sew the Hat in place angled so that the front edge sits just above the eyes and the back of the Hat
sits in line with the neck.
Sew the Pom Pom onto the top of the Hat and the Leaves and Berry onto the Brim.

Santa - Embroidered details.
With the photographs as a guide, using a yarn needle, embroider the following:
With CC2, the single stitch highlight on each eye.

With CC6, the smile on the Beard.
With CC1, the stars on the Body.
If you wish to hang Santa on your tree, attach a loop of yarn to the top of the Head.
Character 2 - Reindeer
Reindeer Body/Head
Work the basic Body/Head pattern above, starting with CC3. Change to CC1 at the end of Rnd 9
and back to CC3 at the end of Rnd 16.
Reindeer Arms - make 2

Make 2 arms using the Basic Arms pattern above. Start with CC3 and change to CC1 at the end of
Rnd 4.
Reindeer Muzzle
Rnd 5: Dc around.

Reindeer Eyes - make 2

Make 2 eyes using the basic Eye pattern above, using CC5.

Chains are not included in the stitch count.
With MC, chain 4.

Rnd 1: Starting in second ch from hook, 3 dc, 2 ch, rotating as you go, in the other side of the
chain work 3 dc, 2 ch. 6 sts
Rnd 2: [3 dc, 3 dc in 2 ch-sp] twice. 12 sts
Rnd 3: Dc around.

Reindeer Ears - make 2

Reindeer Antlers - make 2

Each Antler consists of a long and two short sections. Do not stu .
Long Section - make 2.
With CC5, chain 17.

Row 1: Starting in the second ch from the hook, 16 sl st. 16 sts
Fasten o leaving a long yarn tail. Fold the strip in half so it is half the original length. Use the yarn
tail with a yarn needle to sew down both sides, working through both thicknesses to join the front
and back.
Short Section - make 4.
With CC5, chain 9.

Row 1: Starting in the second ch from the hook, 8 sl st. 8 sts
Fasten o leaving a long yarn tail. Fold the strip in half so it is half the original length. Use the yarn
tail with a yarn needle to sew down both sides, working through both thicknesses to join the front
and back.
Using the photos as a guide, stitch two short sections to each long section to make the antlers.
Reindeer Jumper Collar

With CC1, chain 27.
Row 1: Starting in the second ch from hook, 26 dc. Turn. 26 sts
Row 2: 1 ch, dc across. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, working in the Back Loop only for whole row, dc across. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, dc across.

Reindeer Jumper Bottom Ribbing
With CC1, chain 37.
Row 1: Starting in the second ch from hook, 36 dc. 36 sts

Reindeer - Making Up
Sew the folded Collar in place around the neck.
Sew the Jumper Bottom Ribbing in place in line with Rnd 10 of the Body.
Stu the Muzzle and sew in place on the Head so that the bottom of it sits just above the top edge
of the Collar.
Sew the Nose over the end of the Muzzle.
Sew the Eyes in place just above the top edge of the Muzzle approximately 3 stitches apart.
Sew the Arms in place either side of the Body roughly in line with Rnd 14 of the Body.
Sew the Antlers to the top of the Head, leaving a small gap between them.
Pinch the edge of each Ear to create a fold and secure with a couple of stitches, sew the Ears in
place either side of the Antlers.

Work the Basic Body/Head pattern above, starting with CC1. Change to MC at the end of Rnd 7
and then to CC4 at the end of Rnd 16.
Elf Eyes - make 2

Make 2 eyes using the Basic Eye pattern above, using CC6.
Elf Ears - make 2

Rnd 6: 3 dc2tog, 3 dc. 6 sts

Elf Arms - make 2

Make 2 arms using the Basic Arms pattern above. Start with CC4 and change to MC at the end
of Rnd 4.

Elf - Making Up
Sew the Collar in place around the neck.
Sew the Arms either side of the Body, just below the Collar.
Pinch the edge of the Ears and secure in this folded shapes with a couple of stitches - sew into
place either side of the head with the bottom of the Ears sitting just above the top edge of the
Collar.
Sew the Eyes in place, roughly in line with Rnd 21 of the Body/Head, spaced about 4 stitches
apart.

Sew the Hat in place angled on top of the Head with the bottom edge of the brim at the front sitting
just above the Eyes and the bottom edge of the Brim at the back sitting at the base of the Head.
Sew the Pom Pom onto the top of the Hat.
Elf - Embroidered details

With CC2, the single stitch highlight on each eye, the stars on the Hat and the stripes on the Elf's
jumper.
With CC4, the Nose, in line with Rnd 19/20 of the Head.
With CC6, the Mouth, just below the Nose.
If you wish to hang the Elf on your tree, attach a loop of yarn to the top of the Head.
