SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

W+Tk bring working yarn to the front of the work, slip next stitch knit-
wise onto the RH needle, take working yarn to the back, slip the slipped
stitch back onto the LH needle, turn the knitting = W+Tk (wrap and turn
knit)

W+Tp take working yarn to the back of the work, slip next stitch purl-
wise onto the RH needle, bring working yarn to the front, slip the slipped
stitch back onto the LH needle, turn the knitting = W+Tp (wrap and turn
purl)

K = knit

PATTERN NOTES:

FINISHED SIZE Approx. 15cm/ 6in long
YARN Small amount sport or 4 ply pure wool yarn working two strands
together (unless otherwise stated) as DK weight
I used Drops Alpaca in various shades as follows:
Beak - darkest brown 0601;
Top of Head and Breast - orange 2915 with Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk
shade Coral 06;
Body and Wings - mid brown 618, lightest brown 2020;
Belly and Breast - off-white 100, and light grey 9021
NEEDLES 2 x 2.50mm/ between US 1 & 2 size needles
EXTRAS Toy filling or scraps of yarn for stuffing, 4mm brown toy safety
or black amigurami eyes (note: for preference I do glue my eyes in place -
fine for a decoration but not for a toy, in which case a good fabric glue is
needed also)

Beginning with the Beak
In one strand brown yarn cast on one stitch
Row 1 inc) Kfb - 2sts - keep RS facing you and continue to work i-cord for
beak as follows: ... I also like to work over the tail end as I work the i-cord
Row 2 inc) Do not turn the work instead slip stitches on RH needle back
onto the LH needle - Kfb, k1 - 3sts keep RS facing
Row 3 Do not turn the work instead slip stitches on RH needle back onto the
LH needle - K3, keep RS facing you
Rows 4 & 5 As Row 3
Row 6 inc) [K1, m1] twice, k1 - 5sts
Cut brown yarn and change to orange and ochre yarn - you will now work
the rest of the robin with 2 strands held together
Top of head
Row 6 inc) K2, kfb, k2 - 6sts. Turn work so purl-side faces and now continue
to work in rows stocking stitch as follows:
Rows 7 & 9 Purl
Row 8 inc) K2, kfb twice, k2 - 8sts
At this stage I like to weave in my beak yarn ends back into the beak to tidy up
the ends
Cut orange and ochre yarn and join on brown and mid-grey
