EXCRETORY SYSTEM
A biological system that eliminates
metabolic waste products and excess
substances from an organism,
maintaining internal balance and
preventing the buildup of harmful
substances.
PARTS OF THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM
KIDNEYS
It is a pair of bean-shaped
organs that functions as a filter
of blood which remove excess
substances such as urea,
creatinine, and excess salt
It regulate the concentration of
electrolytes, maintain fluid
balance, and form urine
URETER
It is a pair of tubes transport
urine from the kidneys to the
bladder, ensuring the one-way
flow of urine and preventing
backflow.
BLADDER
It is a sac-like organ that stores
urine until it reaches a certain
volume, signaling the need for
elimination, and then contracts
to expel urine through the
urethra.
URETHRA
It is a tube through which urine
is released from the bladder
out of the body, completing the
excretory process.

It is also equipped with muscular

sphincters that allow voluntary
control over the release of
urine
STEPS IN PROCESSING WASTE PRODUCTS
1. Filtration 2. Reabsorption
Blood is filtered in the Useful substances, like
kidneys, where small water and essential ions,
molecules such as water, are reabsorbed back into
salts, and waste products the bloodstream from the
are separated from filtrate.
larger molecules like
proteins and blood cells.
STEPS IN PROCESSING WASTE PRODUCTS
3. Secretion 4. Storage and Elimination
Additional waste The bladder stores urine
products and excess until it's ready to be
substances are actively eliminated. Urine is
transported from the expelled through the
blood into the filtrate urethra from the body.
