IV. Tools and Equipment

1. whole coconut 5. Acrylic paint or markers
2. A small saw or serrated knife 6. Paintbrushes
3. A drill with various drill bit 7. Strong adhesive (Super glue)
sizes
4. Sandpaper 8. Varnish
V. Procedure:
1. Select a Suitable Coconut:
 Choose a whole coconut that is in good condition, hard, and free of any
cracks or soft spots.
2. Drain the Coconut:
 Use a drill with a small drill bit to create a hole in one of the coconut's
"eyes" (the softer spots on the coconut). Drain the coconut water into a
container. You can save the coconut water for later use.
3. Cut the Coconut:
 Use a saw or a serrated knife to carefully cut the coconut in half. Be
cautious to avoid injuring yourself. You will now have two coconut halves.
4. Hollow Out the Coconut:
 Remove the coconut flesh from one of the halves. Use a knife or a spoon to
gently scrape and scoop out the flesh. Clean the interior of the coconut shell
thoroughly and let it dry.
5. Create a Coin Slot:
 Decide where you want to place the coin slot on the coconut shell. Use a
small drill bit to create a coin slot opening. Make sure it's large enough to
accommodate the largest coin you plan to use.
6. Smooth the Coconut Shell:
 Use sandpaper to smooth the interior and exterior surfaces of the coconut
shell. This will give it a clean finish and make it easier to paint and
decorate.
7. Decorate the Coconut Shell:
 Use acrylic paint, markers, or any decorative materials of your choice to
paint and decorate the coconut shell. You can turn it into a piggy bank by
adding a face and any other design elements. Let the paint dry completely.
8. Assemble the Coin Slot:
 If you used a separate piece for the coin slot, glue it securely onto the
coconut shell using strong adhesive (e.g., super glue). Make sure it's firmly
attached and that coins can be inserted through it.
9. Apply Varnish:
 To protect the paint and give your piggy bank a glossy finish, apply a coat
of varnish to the painted surface. Allow it to dry according to the varnish
manufacturer's instructions.
You've created a unique and personalized piggy bank using a coconut, and the
varnish will help preserve your design. Enjoy your new savings container!
