1. Breakdown of Definitions:
1.1 Etymology of CHROMATIC- from the Greek word chromos, meaning relating to color1
1.2 Etymology Of ENERGY- from the Greek word energeia meaning activity or work2

2. Define color, what if the color wheel? Color is the property possessed by an object of producing
different sensations on the eye as a result of the way the object reflects or emits light. A color wheel is a
circle with different colored sectors used to show the relationship between colors.

2.1 what are the three parts of color? Define each part and how it relates to the color’s
presentation. The three parts of color are hue, value, and saturation. Hue is the name of a color, such
as red, blue, or green. Value is the lightness or darkness of a color, such as light blue or dark blue.
Saturation is the intensity or purity of a color such as bright red or dull red.3

2.2 In the color wheel there are 3 types of relationship between the colors: identify each type. there
are three types of relationship between colors on the color wheel, such as monochrome,
complementary, and analogous.4
Monochrome is when you use a single color with various shades.
Complementary is when you use colors that are opposite to each other on the wheel,
Analogous is when you use colors that are adjacent to each other on the wheel.

2.3 There are two main categories of the colors in the color wheel? What does WARM & COOL
colors mean? Warm colors are red, orange, and yellow, and they have the longest wavelengths on
the color spectrum. They create a sense of energy, and excitement. Cool colors are green, blue, and
violet, and they have the shortest wavelengths on the color spectrum. They create a sense of
calmness, and relaxation from the eye.5

RED can be associated to heat and fire, so it evokes feelings of, anger, urgency and importance.
ORANGE is often associated with energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and dependency.
YELLOW common traits are positivity, joy, and intellect
GREEN color are peace, growth, and tranquility
BLUE common traits are peacefulness, calm and reliable
PURPLE Imaginative, mysterious, and spiritual
BROWN is often seen as solid, much like the earth, and it's a color often associated with
resilience, security, and safety.
PINK associated with love, kindness, and femininity
GRAY often seen as neutral, balance, and maturity
BLACK can be seen as elegance, formality and authority
WHITE associated with traits such as purity, simplicity, and cleanliness

3. What is light? Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation that allows the human eye to see or make
objects visible

3.1 how important is light in art and architecture? Light is essential in art and architecture as it can
create different moods, and atmospheres. It also highlights shapes, colors, textures and details of an
object

3.2 Present an actual work of that uses light as its main focal point of design. And explain how it is
effective in its design intention.

For example, artist use light to create shadows, contrast, and perspectives in their paintings or sculpture.
While architects use light to enhance the functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability of their buildings.
light art it’s an art form which light is the main focus, Yayoi Kusama uses lights to intensify the effect of
dozens of sculptural pumpkins from within or create a glittering universe of hundreds of multi-colored

As we can see in the picture lighting affect the moods of the structure of the house. How the light hit every
detail of an object in the house. We can also feel the vibe of the house as the light affect the mood. It draws
attention to the texture and forms of a space making it visible and inviting.

4. Texture design:
4.1 define TEXTURE in the context of architectural design. Texture in architecture is the sensation
and feel of objects received through sense of touch and vision.

4.1.1 what does tactile mean? Tactile means of or connected with the sense of touch or perceptible by
touch.

4.2 different types of texture in architecture? Tactile, visual and audible. audible texture affects how the
object or room sounds.

4.3 define ACTUAL TEXTURE / VISUAL SIMULATED TEXTURE / INVENTED TEXTURES


Tactile texture refers to the quality of materials and how they feel to the touch or look like they would feel
through touch. For example, a building with a rough stone façade has a tactile texture.
visual affects how an object or room looks. Its created by the artist using different techniques and materials to
make the surface look smooth, rough or bumpy.
Invented texture on the other hand can be used to create specified, high-quality texture for materials, drawings
and 3d models. It also affects the quality of light in a space7
