 This art work made by the artist called He Duoling, who was brain in Sichuan Chengdu
in 1948. The artist made this work “The veranda” in 1986, this is one of 44 comic strips
based on Chekhov's novel of the same name.
 The whole story tells the story of a painter full of idealism, who accidentally met in the
countryside full of melancholy, poetic and full of dreams of the pure little girl one meter
Shuji, in the fields and countryside, they walked together, she watched him paint, he
talked about life with her, because of the girl's departure, the painter had to leave alone
and returned to Petersburg, when the loneliness came, The painter can't stop
remembering the past.
 According to the understanding and discovery that He Duoling is the representative of
Chinese contemporary "lyric realism" oil painters, looking back to the early 1980s of the
last century, those sensational works can be found that he mainly shaped the image of a
family and a collective. This series was created during this period. Careful observation
found that his art works have poetic characteristics, heavy painting, his paintings are
more the pursuit of unfettered freedom, and the figures and scenes are full of life vitality.
 Going back to this work, it can be found that the protagonist of this work is a woman
sitting sideways facing the front wearing a white blouse with a dark blue skirt and a low
 ponytail tied with ornaments like red flowers; One hand was on her leg and the other at
her side, and her face looked impassive, as if she were observing something earnestly; A
bouquet of flowers is placed in front of the leg. The main background is a lawn path with
five birds or butterflies flying in the air, while there are two small houses in the upper
right corner that are far away according to their size. Careful observation shows that the
grassland is hill-like, the protagonist is in a lower position, and the house is high, which
is connected to the sky along the trend.
 In terms of structure, the whole picture is divided into 3x3: the girl is mainly in the
middle and right, the flower basket is in the middle and right bottom grid, the butterfly or
bird is in the left and middle top grid, the bottom two grids on the left are lawns, and the
house is in the upper right grid. Placing the subject on the right can highlight the figure
and let people know at a glance that the woman in the painting is the protagonist. But I
was also thinking about why not put people on the left side, thinking that there are
butterflies or birds on the left side, although the left side is mostly lawn, butterflies or
birds can enrich the picture, but also increase the interaction between characters and
nature.

 From the color point of view, the color of this painting is dark, the color is relatively
gray, even the flower basket and the decorative objects on the head are relatively dim,
and the daily bright color is very different. At first it feels like a rustic farm, but the
atmosphere seems a little subdued and there are signs of that in the style of the author
above.
 My theme this time is "Man and butterfly", and I choose this artist to learn the depiction
of characters. Careful observation shows that the artist's works are not smooth and flat,
but clearly visible brush strokes. The shade color and even the outline are painted with
brush strokes. This is exactly what I want to learn. As for me, I am not good at flat
pictures, but it is difficult for me to accurately depict messy ones. Therefore, I want to
learn more about this painting style through this artist, and try collage in the future.
