Jack

1.Exterior-day: CAMERA PANS round as a gust of wind blows past

the camera revealing a Jack-In-The-Box sat under a tree. The
handle starts to turn. Lid opens with a bang revealing a damaged
looking jester. The CAMERA moves towards the Jack-In-The-Box. The
screen goes black as the CAMERA reaches the Jack-In-The-Box.

Text on the screen: 6 years ago, it happened. 6 years ago, she

almost died. 6 years ago, he was put into a psychiatric hospital
after IT failed to make him do its task. History will have to
repeat itself to discover who wins this game.

Black Screen Audio: Cara Cara I am coming to get you.

2. Interior-morning: CLOSE UP Room with a double bed, full of

blankets and cushions. Cara, who was sleeping, wakes up with a
start and tries to catch her breath OVER THE SHOLDER SHOT as she
goes over to a wardrobe with polaroid pictures of her and a boy
and opens it to see a CLOSE-UP of a Jack-In-The-Box. CLOSE UP of
Cara as she rubs her eyes before looking confused and scared.
CARA
Jack!

WIDE SHOT of the doorway and hallway from Caras room. A tall boy
in white Pyjamas with a scar on his face above his left eye
appears in Caras doorway almost tripping over his own feet.

JACK
What?! What's the matter? I was sleeping.

CUTS TO CARA

Cara
I had the nightmare again. I thought I saw the thing in
the wardrobe. Can you check?

She looks down nervously

CUTS BACK TO JACK

Jack
Yeah, I suppose I can. (he puts his arms up
smiles and raises his eyebrows) But I don't know
what you expect me to find.

(FOLLOWS BEHIND JACK) He begins walking over to the wardrobe as

he takes a step closer. (CUT TO CLOSE UP PANNING SHOT OF CARA.)
Cara starts to breathe heavily and begins to take steps backwards
before hitting her bed and climbing on so Jack didn't get too
close to her. (CUTS TO POV SHOT OF THE WARDROBE WITH NO JACK-IN-
THE-BOX then CUT TO CLOSE UP OF JACK). Jack looks into the
wardrobe before turning his head to find Cara.

Jack
Yep, all good, there is nothing in there.

(WIDESHOT)He shuts the wardrobe and turns towards Cara who is

still sitting on her bed, legs brought up to her chest.

Jack
What's up? Ever since I came home you've been
avoiding me but also mum too.

Cara
I'm just nervous that someone will try again and maybe
this time I don't survive. (CAMERA MOVES TOWARDS
HER as she says the line)
Caras head tilts up looking at Jack nervously, CAMERA CUTS TO
SHOT of Jack.

Jack
Don't worry, even if it does happen again, I
promise that I will protect you. (Puts his hand
on his chest as a sign of the promise) But also,
if you don't feel comfortable with people really
close to you, I will of course respect that.

He holds his hands up while smiling.

Jack
Anyway, I’m going to get ready for school, see
you downstairs in a bit? (smiling)

CAMERA FOLLOWS BEHIND JACK as he walks out the room and then
after he is out of sight CAMERA PANS AROUND to see Cara smiling
and starting to get off her bed

Cara
(whispers)Yeah, but can I trust you?

CAMERA PANS backwards as Cara walks to the chest of drawers, as

she reaches the drawers CAMERA MOVES TO LOOKING OUT OF THE
WINDOW.
CUT TO CARA IN THE KITCHEN

3.Interior-morning: WIDE SHOT of Cara in the Kitchen sat at the

table Jack then walks in brushing past Cara who looks
uncomfortable opening the fridge taking a bottle of juice out
before putting it on the side and turning around.
Jack
Where is mum?

Cara
Oh, she left for work as I came down the stairs.
You know she struggles with talking to us, mainly
you after the accident and after you were released
from hospital, right Jack?

Jack
Oh, yeah, I understand that although it slightly
upsets me. Shes not spoken to me, let alone
looked at me since she picked me up from that
bloody psychiatric hospital! All those white
walls, white sheets, white clothes! It drives you
mad
whe you are put in there for 6 whole years not
even knowing why you were sent there in the first
place. You would think I would have been told why

or even have my own mother talk to me while I was

there but no, nothing!

Cara
Come on Jack, cut her some slack. Yes, I know she's
not seen you in 6 years but it's difficult, she tried
to avoid me for the first few months before she came
around and understood that she can't not be around for
a 10-year-old. She just stopped speaking to me about
anything relating to what happened.

Jack pours a glass of juice and takes a mouthful. He

grabs a cereal bar off the side.

Jack
Yeah, I suppose you are right (Scratches the back of
his head)

CUT TO AN EXTREME CLOSE UP of the front door with the shapes of

two people outside. The doorbell rings. CUT to Jack and Cara in
the kitchen.

Jack
(sighs) I’ll get it.

CUTS to behind Jack as he walks past her to the door. As he walks

past, he stops and puts his hands on her shoulders and whispers

Hello Cara, I’m back!

Cara
Scared and unsure of what happened and why he did it)
Jack! What the hell?!

Jack quickly removes his hands and shakes

Jack
Oh crap! I’m so sorry. I don't know what happened!

Cara
I’m fine (visibly uncomfortable)

The doorbell is heard again.

Cara
Go open the door Jack

CAMERA FOLLOWS Jack to the front door, after he opens it CUTS TO

POV SHOT FROM JACK.

Jack
Hi, COREY, KIT. 

Then MOVES BACKWARDS AS THE TWO NEW PEOPLE WALK INTO THE HOUSE.

COREY
Hey Jack, hi Cara. Where's your mum?

KIT
Walks past Jack and Corey as he says: Yeah, I was wondering that
too.

Kit pulls out the chair at the other end of the table and sits
down.

Cara
She, er, wanted to get to work early (stumbling on her
words)

CUTS to Close up of Jack and Corey. Jack is looking at the floor.

Corey
(slightly quieter tone) Thats not the reason buddy?
(smiles) Your mum hasn't been home in the mornings since
you got home.

Jack
No, she left because she doesn't know how to act around me
anymore. I think she's scared of me, but I don't know why.

He continues to look down before crouching down to pull on his

trainers. (CAMERA PULLS BACK) Cara and Corey walk into shot with
Cara sitting on the stairs to put on her shoes. (CAMERA MOVES
AWAY FROM JACK) Corey glances over at Cara and she nods (CAMERA
MOVES BACK TO JACK AS COREY LOOKS AT HIM) as Corey looks back at
Jack who has now stood up with his bag. (WIDE SHOT) They stand in
silence for a few moments

Kit
Come on let's stop standing, (Looks at Cara) or
sitting, here and go off to school or we are likely to
be late. Cara, you are already not well liked by our
teacher for being late.

Cara
Yeah ok (picks up her bag) Come on out you boys go I
will lock up, Jack.

(CAMERA AT THE END OF THE HALLWAY) Jack shrugs and walks towards
the door opening it followed by Corey and Kit and then Cara. Cara
walks out of the door. (CLOSE UP OF THE DOOR AND CARA as she
eventually closes it locking it)

TITLE SEQUENCE: JACK

4.Ext Morning:
AREIAL CAMERA SHOT the group walking in school to their class.
Another person enters the shot. CAMERA MOVES DOWN INFRONT OF THE
GROUP.

Jack
Oh, look Mick’s here today (Staring off at MICK who is
walking to class seemingly muttering something really
fast)

Cara motions for Kit to follow as she starts to walk in a

different direction.

Cara
I will leave you with the lovesick boy Corey. Come on Kit or
we will be late.
Corey
(Reaching out in an attempt to stop her) Wait no, Cara (CUTS
TO CLOSE UP OF COREY AND JACK, Corey puts his hand on his
forehead) Ugh, come on Jack or we will be late too. (He
grabs Jacks arm) You can stare at him all you want in class
come on. (Corey tugs Jacks arm)

5.INT-Morning: Classroom
Rows of Desks-CAMERA INFRONT of Jack and Corey, jack is staring
off camera while Corey is trying to talk to him.

Corey
I did some research and I think everything that has
happened may be linked to something known as the Jack-
In- The-Box. Apparently, many people who were born before
us had the same sort of symptoms as you. Seeing shapes or
people who can't be seen by others, hearing a voice
only you can hear, feeling something touch you but nothing
is there. So yeah, not sure how it links to your sister
but that's all I got so far. Oh yeah and people who have
been known to have had been (puts air quotations in the air
with his hands) Possessed or something by this Jack-In-The-
Box also spoke really fast normally when they thought they
were talking to something. But I'm not completely sure if
that relates to this (gestures to Jack who is still not
paying attention) as you've always spoken really fast even if
it was just to yourself.

Jack
Mmmh. Yeah. I guess, although why are you linking it to a
Childrens toy? My sister used to have one. It appears in
her nightmares. I mean how can a silly toy be linked to
Psychosis? (Stops taking abruptly after speaking really
fast, continues to stare off camera)

Corey
Thats exactly what I’m talking about! I don't know how it
links but apparently it does. And! You are proving my
point! You do speak really fast.

Jack doesn't say anything, and Corey clicks that Jack hasn't
really been listening to him.

Corey
Wait, Jack, are you even listening to me? I've been
speaking for the last couple of minutes.

Still nothing from Jack

Corey
Oh, look Caras here. Hi Cara (waves at nothing)

Jack spins himself around at the mention of his sister being in

their class

Jack
Caras here? Wait, why are you here? (Draws the word ‘Here’
out after he sees that Cara isn't actually there) Shes not
here, really?

Corey
What? I wanted to get your attention as I was talking to
you, but you weren't paying attention.

Jack
Oh, you were sorry I didn't hear you.
Corey
Seriously? You even responded to the first part of my
apparently one sided conversation. Anyway, what was so
interesting that you were ignoring me?

Corey looks off camera to where Jack was looking. CAMERA them
moves slightly to reveal what Jack was so focused on. Mick
sitting by the window writing something on a piece of paper

before looking over at Corey then to Jack, Mick lingered his line
of sight on Jack for a few moments before going back to writing.

Corey
Of course, you’d be staring at him. (Rolls his eyes)

CAMERA MOVES SO ITS JUST MICK AND JACK IN SHOT. Jack resumes his
looking at Mick Fade to black as Mick looks back at Jack and
gives a sad smile and mouths something that the camera can't pick
up (why Him?)

6.INT-Corridor
CAMERA AT THE END OF THE CORRIDOR. Jack is seen walking quietly
down it. The doors then slam open suddenly Mick is seen storming
down the corridor as he reaches Jack, Mick grabs Jack by his
shoulders, spins him around so his Jacks back is facing the wall
as he pushes Jack against the wall. CUT To close up of them.

Mick
Your psychosis creature is the Jack-In-The-Box. I have one
too. Don't act like you didn't know what was happening to
you or why your sister is scared of being really close to
you or why you were put in the psychiatric hospital for 6
years. I was there that night. Why do you think you didn't
complete the job or why Cara survived?

Jack
(Sarcasm) Yeah, wow. I didn't know. It's not like I've been
hiding it from people. (Serious) I don't want to do the job.
I thought the thing would disappear after I failed. It
never even told me what its job was. (He pauses for a
moment) Wait hold on. Back track a bit Mick. What did
you say at the beginning?

Mick
About what?
Jack
The Jack-In-The-Box bit.

Mick
It was all about the Jack-In-The-Box.
Jack
Yeah, yeah, I know. Something about two of them?

Cut to POV Shot from Jack

Mick
That I know you have one?
Jack
No, no after that.

Mick
Oh, that bit. Yeah, I got Psychosis too. It's also a Jack-
In-The-Box, jack. (Smiles as he releases Jacks shoulders
and takes a step back allowing Jack to move away from the
wall. CUT TO CLOSE WIDE SHOT OF THEM) So basically, there
is an “Evil one” (gestures to Jack) You and a “good one”
(points to himself) me.

Jack

So basically, we both have a job to do? Or well the Jack-

In-The-Boxes?
Mick
Yeah, mine is to stop you.
Jack
So? Do you know what my job is?

Mick
Oh, yeah. You need to kill Cara... (he looks away not
wanting to meet jacks eyes.)

Jack
Oh, so is that why Cara doesn't like me really close to
her?
Mick
Yeah 6 years ago you were meant to kill her but ultimately
failed due to something stopping you, as you know. How do
you think you got that scar on your forehead?

Jack
Wait what? I thought I tripped on a rock? And then woke in
a bed in the psych ward.

Mick
Well, yes you did get it from a rock and passed out from
the impact. But it wasn't on the ground. (Jack looks
confused as Mick looked his directly in the eyes) I
threw it at you...

CUT TO BLACK
7. EXT-OUTSIDE OF A WOODS

CAMERA BEHIND Cara and Kit They are talking about school all of a
sudden Cara stops. CAMERA CUTS INFRONT

Kit
Cara? You alright?

Cara
(stuttering nervously) D-d-do we have t-to go through t-t-
there?
Kit
Yeah, I guess, unless we want to take longer to get home?
Why?
Cara
It h-happened in there (points towards the woods CAMERA
TURNS TO SHOW THE WOODS AGAIN)

8. EXT-WOODS 6 YEARS AGO

CAMERA MOVES TOWARDS THE WOODS. CUTS TO A GROUND SHOT OF FEET
RUNNING. CAMERA MOVES UP TO REVEAL CARA RUNNING.

Jack’s Jack-In-The-Box Off Camera

Cara come out. Come out. I just want to see you...
Jack-In-The-Box jingle is heard
GROUND SHOT OF JACK Holding a knife, standing looking around
before running off. Jack-In-The-Box jingle is still playing

Jack
CAMERA INFRONT OF HIM, JACK STOPS, slowly hides the knife,
Cara, I know you are there come on its me. I’m not going to
hurt you. He smirks and sniggers as THE CAMERA PULLS OUT TO
HIS SIDE SHOWING HIM PLAYING WITH THE KNIFE BEHIND HIS BACK.

A rustle is heard Cara appears from behind a bush running. Jack

brings the knife back out and starts running after her. ARIAL
SHOT OF THE TWO RUNNING. CUT TO INFRONT OF CARA OVER THE SHOLDER
Jack hears a rustle in a bush and stops to look over but is met
with a rock to the skull, he drops to the ground. Cara hears the
thump and turns around to see Jack on the ground knife still in
his hand, bleeding from the forehead.
END FLASHBACK

9.INT- Library
CAMERA WIDE SHOT Kit, Corey, Cara, Jack are all sat at a table.
Mick is stood in front of the table.

Mick
Thank you for meeting me here. I know Jack is the only one
who has actually spoken to me here.
Jack
(mumbling) Not how I wanted our first conversation to go.

CAMERA MOVES TO THE SIDE OF THE TABLE AS MICK SITS NEXT TO JACK

Corey
What do you mean “Not how you wanted your first
conversation to go”?
Jack
(Looks at Corey and rolls his eyes) How on earth did you
hear that?!
Cara
Jack. Shush. We are in a library.

Jack

Year right, sorry. Anyway, this one pinned me to a wall to

get my attention (pointing at Mick before throwing his arms
up and resting his chin on one hand when he brought them
down.

Corey moved closer to Jack

Corey
OOOOHH.
Jack
Nah, not like that (whispering to Corey) Unfortunately
Normal volume) More violently than anything.
Mick
Sorry I didn't know how to get your attention enough to
make you listen, And I was angry.
Cara
Ah what did he do this time?

CUTS TO INFRONT OF JACK who gives her a look that says “what the
hell?”
CUTS TO A SHOT OF THE GROUP FROM NEXT TO JACK
Mick
I wasn't angry with Jack. Basically, both Jack and I suffer
from Psychosis. They are both in the form of a Jack-In-The-
Box. And they both have a job to complete. The good Jack-
In-The-Box's job is to stop the Evil one from completing
its job. And the evil ones job is to unfortunately kill
someone.

CUTS TO A CLOSE UP OF THE GROUP FROM AN END OF THE TABLE. Jack

bows his head looking sad.

Kit
So, if both you and Jack have these Jack-In-The-Box
creatures showing themselves to you, who is the evil
one and who is the good one?

Cara
(Glancing over to Jack) I think I know.

Mick
I thought you may. Would you like to say?

Cara
Mick’s the good one.

Corey
(Looking confused) How did you work that one out we have no
evidence?
Cara
You may not have evidence, or you could just be in complete
denial. I hate to say but I know because it was Jack who
tried to kill me 6 years ago, although he can't remember
what he did.

CAMERA CUTS TO JACK AND MICK

Corey Off Camera

Oh
Mick
Hmmm. You can't remember what happened, Jack? Strange.
Mick smiles while resting his chin on his hand while Jack angrily
stares at him clenching his teeth.

CAMERA PULLS OUT SHOWING THE GROUP

Cara
Jack, what's he talking about?

Jack
Shut up you, ugh thanks now I have to tell her, Cara I
lied, I made out that I didn't remember so you’d feel
slightly safer around me. I suppressed the urge to tell
people that I'm fully conscious when it's in control. In
fact, it is just me. Every time something happened and
after I acted like I didn't realize what I did, I knew
exactly what I was doing (CAMERA MOVES TO CLOSE UP OF
JACK, COREY AND CARA, Pause, looks directly at Cara) I was
following orders.

CUTS TO WIDE SHOT OF THE GROUP

Kit and Corey
Oh crap.
Kit
Obviously not what we were expecting. Anyway, how do we
stop the jobs? Do you have to succeed?
Jack stands up pulling Mick up with him
Mick
Basically, we know that if I fail my task nothing will
happen to me?
Cara
How do we know that?

Jack
Yesterday morning Corey mentioned that he found out that
there was a load of people before Mick and I who had the
Jack-In-The-Boxes meaning that each time there would be
two, one good and one evil.

Mick Produced a piece of paper on the table CAMERA MOVES CLOSER

TO IT as the group move their heads in and Mick and Jack move
closer to the table to do the same.

Mick
POINTING AT THE PAPER From this report there have been
multiple murders of people who had a direct connection to
their killer. All of the killers were diagnosed with
psychosis after their arrests.

Jack
There is one that stands out though Alex Menton (CAMERA
MOVES INTO WHERE THE PAPER SAYS THE NAME AND DETAILS) He is
the only person who was actually dead before he made it onto
this list. He failed his task. (CAMERA MOVES BACK OUT TO
WIDE SHOT) Meaning if Mick failed his task as he has
the good Jack-In-The-Box there would be no consequences
however, if I were to fail well it would kill me.

Corey walks off and comes back with a laptop and begins to login.
Corey
Why are we all just standing around we need to figure out
how to stop this.

10. INT. Library

FADE IN WIDE SHOT OF THE GROUP with lots of paper around them
looking dishevelled.
Kit

We’ve been at this for hours can we rest?

Cara
Kit, the longer we take figuring this out the more time Jack
could turn around and kill me, and you don't want that I
assume?

Kit nods and resumes looking at the paper

CLOSE UP OF JACK looking uncomfortable. He gets up CAMERA MOVES

BACK SHOING THE WHOLE GROUP.
Jack
I’m going to go and get some air I will be back in a bit

CAMERA BEHIND JACK as he walks out of sight.

11. EXT- RAINING

CAMERA BEHIND JACK MOVING AROUND AS HE PUTS HIS HAND ON HIS
SHOULDER.
Jack
I know you are there. Why do I have to kill her?

Jacks Jack-In-The-Box
Come on Jack, you know why. Making my hosts kill those who they
are close to just makes me grow stronger and more able to
control those whose bodies I chose to command. Why do you think
That guy you like hasn't been able to stop me the Jack-In-
The-Box is weak failing to stop me every time.
Jack
Why didn't you go when he stopped me 6 years ago? He completed
his task.

Jacks Jack-In-The-Box

LAUGHS You really think it's that simple? Why do you think there
were so many deaths of my success on that report hmm? Come on
Jack use that brain of yours, its powerful you know, if you don't
die when you fail your task, I will still be here controlling
your brain, my command centre, my life line. You don't fail until
I SAY (shouting)

Jack covers his ears although that will do nothing, he crouches

against the wall in the rain. EXTREME CLOSE UP

Jack
(quietly)I have to die...

YOU CONTINUE DOING MY BIDDING UNTIL YOU KILL HER!
Jack
(SLIGHTY LOUDER) I have to die! Destroy your command
centre. Thats how I do it!

Jacks Jack-In-The-Box
Wait what. No, no. Don't do it. Listen to me you
insignificant human I control you stop (VOICE FADES AWAY AS
JACK TRIES TO IGNORE THE VOICE IN HIS HEAD)

12. INT library

CUT TO
CAMERA INFRONT as Jack runs in soaking wet from the rain
CAMERA CUTS TO INFRONT as the group look up

Jack, we are struggling to find answers we are sorry. (He looks

at his best friend in defeat)

CAMERA CUTS TO JACK BY MICKS SIDE

Jack
Its ok, thanks for looking though. Mick I really need to talk
to you. (GRABS MICKS ARM AND PULLS HIM AWAY FROM THE TABLE)
CAMERA SEES THE GROUP AND MICK AND JACK AS THEY LEAVE.
Mick
GETTING DRAGGED AWAY. Oh, yeah, ok I'm coming. We will back
soon guys

13.EXT-By a wall
CUT TO A CLOSE UP OF MICK AND JACK BY A WALL

Jack
LOOKING DOWN) Mick, I needed to talk to you, alone. But
because of circumstances that cannot be avoided I need to
say it now. (LOOKING UP AT MICK) Mick, I really like you
like really. I just needed to get that out, I don't want to
know your answer because either way it won't matter.

Mick
Jack! What on earth are you talking about? Circumstances? My
response to that won't matter? Why? Did I do something? Jack,
I know it's difficult but come on please. I li-
Jack
I don't want to know alright.

CAMERA PULLS OUT revealing their full bodies and the knife behind
Jack
Jack

HANDS MICK THE KNIFE) Here take it

Mick
MICK RAISES HIS HANDS) What the hell do you want me to do with
that Jack?

Jack
TRIES TO GIVE MICK THE KNIFE) Please just take it.
Mick
I won't take it until you tell me why you are so desperate to
give it to me Jack!
Jack
ALMOST WHISPARING) I need you to kill me.

Mick
What? (CONFUSED
Jack
Kill me Mick, please.
Mick
NO! JACK! Are you out of your mind?! (BRINGS HIS HANDS TO HIS
HEAD)
Jack
Please just take the knife Mick

Mick
You can't ask me to do that. Especially after you just said
that you have a crush on me. I won't do it.

Jack
Ok, I’ll say it again... I NEED to die.

Wait what? (BRINGING HIS HANDS DOWN)

Jack
It won't stop until Caras dead or its had enough of me and
kills me itself. Its either I die, or Cara dies. I will not have
go through the fear of almost being killed again. (STARTS SHAKING
WITH THE KNIFE IN HIS HANDS)
Mick
(TAKES THE KNIFE FROM JACKS SHAKING HANDS) What, Jack, I can
stop it I just need to figure out how, give me time and both of
you can live.
Jack
The Jack-In-The-Box controlling me is more powerful than
yours. I will only fail my task if I die therefore, you will only
succeed in stopping me and protecting Cara if you kill me.
Mick
I’m not killing you I don't care if that means We have to
figure out another way.
Jack
(REACHES UP AND TOUCHES THE SIDE OF MICKS FACE) I will die
either way. If you kill me, you complete your task and save Cara.
Use my knife and drive it into my skull through my brain. Kill me
and the Jack-In-The-Box for good.
Mick
Please don't make me (TREMBLING)

CAMERA PULLS OUT MORE AS JACK GOES TO KNEEL ON THE GROUND

GIDIDING MICKS HAND WITH THE KNIFE SO THE TIP OF THE KNIFES BLADE
IS BETWEEN HIS EYEBROWS.

14. EXT- By a wall

Mick
I love you, Jack.

CAMERA MOVES FORWARD, JACK AND MICK GO OUT OF SHOT. A SHADOW OF

THE KNIFE AND MICKS HAND ARE SEEN ON THE WALL MOVING DOWN IN A
STABBING MOTION.

15. Montage of scenes

CLOSE UP OF MICK STANDING, DROPPING THE KNIFE AND LOOKING AT HIS
BLOODY HANDS
FADES TO AN AREIAL CAMERA SHOT the group walking in school to
their class. Another person enters the shot. CAMERA MOVES DOWN
