REDESIGNING YOUR EFL TEACHING EXPERIENCE

PHASE 1 – EMPATHISE

Redesign your partner’s EFL teaching experience. Start by gaining empathy for your partner. Interview your partner for about five
minutes and take notes about the area/skill/problem you are going to address in your group.
PHASE 2 – DEFINE

What does your partner need to improve his/her EFL teaching experience? Dig deeper and find out about your partner’s feelings and
motivations. What’s something about your partner’s experience that he/she doesn’t see? Fill in the following chart:

___________________________________________________ [your partner’s name] needs a way to _____________________________________________________________

[user’s need] because (or “but” or “Suprisingly”…)

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ [your insight]

PHASE 3 – IDEATE

Using your notes from phases 1 & 2, sketch at least two radical ways to meet your user’s needs (or to solve his/her problem). Share your
solutions with your group.
PHASE 4 – PROTOTYPE

Based on the feedback you got from your group, reflect and generate a new solution. Sketch your big idea and note details if necessary!
Build your solution. You can use paper, post-its, objects, etc.

PHASE 5 – TEST
Share your solution with the group and get feedback. What worked? What could be improved? Questions. More ideas…
