Week 5 Activity: SURVEY COMPLETION AND PILOT STUDY

In this activity you are going to complete the online survey yourself and then undertake a
pilot interview with someone from another group and then report back to your group.
Task 1: login to Qualtrics to find our class survey and pilot the survey

1. Check your student email for your Qualtrics collaboration email from
me. I have sent you all a collaboration code for our class survey draft:

2. Copy the collaboration code into your Qualtrics account (Projects -> shared with me ->
accept collaboration -> input collaboration code -> submit)
3. Complete the survey (click on the survey -> preview -> complete) time yourself – how
long did it take you? Take note of issues and the question number.
4. Are there any problems with any of the questions? How did you feel when you were
filling them out? Did anything not make sense? Anything offensive? What about
the ordering? Do you feel there needs to be more instructions?

Task 2: Provide survey feedback

1. In Zoom we will utilize the break out rooms to team up with a person in another group
2. Conduct a 5-10 minute qualitative interview with them about the survey, take detailed
notes
- in particular make notes about the item(s) that you/your group selected for the survey –
either on your own or in the boxes provided below. Discuss the general questions as
well.
3. We will utilize break out rooms to report back to your group, collate your information
(each of you has spoken to a different person, what did they say? focus on common
problems identified).
4. Things to consider when editing your questions:
- The survey is too long - maximum of 4 questions per group. Do any questions overlap?
- Scales/Indexes should have a maximum of 6 items
- Introduce your questions concisely, but remove discussion notes and references
- Remember your participants- not all will live in Australia/will work/are women
- Questions about sensitive topics (experiences) not appropriate.
5. You can make changes directly in the class pilot survey, or upload a summary of
changes to questions for your group (PUT YOUR GROUP NUMBER IN) to the Week 5
discussion wall. Please stipulate the question number, all additions you would like
included (word these exactly), and any questions or parts that should be eliminated.
This will be used to refine the survey.
