Proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in one clear
sentence):Yarning out fast fashion

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

Can crocheting your own clothes cheaper and better in quality than buying it from the fast fashion industry?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I choose this inquiry question because I have seen in many stores that clothes are selled at an extreme
price. I do not buy a lot of clothes and I was wondering if the high price were only to make a huge profit out
of customers. I was also wondering how easy/how hard it is to make my own clothes without supporting
business that use child labour. For the past years, I have seen lots of people using online shopping to buy
their clothes at a very low prices while clothes shop. Seeing the price range had made me question about
the reality of our clothes fabricants.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

I have little to no knowledge about crocheting. I have started crocheting at the beginning of the year of 2024
and due to busy schedule, I was unable to put time into learning how to crochet.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

My intended career area is not related to my inquiry question or neither my capstone project. I am more
interested towards the science area rather than art but I value the nature, substainability and I thought
about making a project that is not related to my interest but rather, my values.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

My capstone project is connected to these area, textile mathematics and economy. As crocheting clothes
involves the use of textiles, I also need to use maths to mesure myself and calculate the length of yarn
needed. As for economy, it is connected to my project as I will become more conscious of the use of money
as I will limit spending.
My capstone project is connected to these core competencie, creative thinking, communication, thinking
and personal awareness. As I make my own clothes, I will design it myself which involves creative thinking.
When I will need help, I will contact mentors, involving communication. The project itself is also tied to
personal awareness as this project will teach me about the reality behind our clothes.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

In my capstone project, I will be creating a physical object which in my case is a cardigan. The production
of that piece of clothe is done from scratch, without following a tutorial on how to crochet a cardigan on
youtube. I will be designing it on my own, using a combination of multiple techniques. If I am able to
crochet my cardigan in the time given and I have some more time left, I might be able to produce
something else, such as a scarf, a bag or a hat. I will have to research on crocheting technique such as the
different stiches patterns, ‘’blocking” my project and assemble everything with a needle. My goal on the

 overall capstone project is to raise awareness among the people about the negative side of fast fashion
such as child labour, child exploitation, cheap and low quality and, how it is harmful to the environment. I
will be presenting the bad side on fast fashion through some internet research, learning more about the
reality behind our clothes. In this project, I will be crocheting my own clothes to answer my inquiry question
and, to learn and raise awareness about fast fashion.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

I will need hand precision skills, math knowledge and attention to detail. As for ressource, I need yarns, a
hook, a block board and a crochet needle to complet my project. To learn the skill, I will mostly need
youtube as it is easier to learn how to crochet through videos rather than text ressources.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to

help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access
the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

I have a lot of connections with the people I have mentionned to be my mentor. One of the mentor is a
teacher at R.E Mountains, I do not know her but she has taught me a bit of crochet during an activity day.
I have some crochet content creator in my mind that I can contact through their wbesite or social media.
My mentors can helped me by looking at my progress and point out my mistake or give me some advices.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

Limit budget of 50$. I might be able to create more than one physical object if I have some time.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about your project
that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

Because of my limited budget, I will not spend money in high quality yarn such cotton fabrics. I will be
using acrylic yarn as it is cheaper in price. I understand and am aware that acrylic is harmful to the
environment.
