Unit Tips:
 Each lesson is labeled at the top with Lesson 1,2,3 or 4. It may take more than 1 class period to
get through the lesson., especially Lesson 1.
 A PowerPoint is included to deliver the content. You could also use an Elmo projector or a
white board.
 At the end of each lesson is a Learning Check. These are 1 or 2 questions that reinforce what
was taught during the lesson. The learning checks can be used in many ways. One way is to use
them as a ticket to leave the class. They can be done together at the end of class. Students
can do them as part of their homework and they can be discussed at the beginning of the
next class. They can be used as a quick review at the beginning of the next class.
 Each lesson has a practice worksheet that reinforces the content taught.
 The task cards can be used as a unit review before the test. Students can do them individually
or at stations.

Lesson 1: Practice Worksheet Overview
Assigning Oxidation Numbers Practice Worksheet
Students will be applying the assigning oxidation numbers rules they learned in
class on a practice worksheet. The worksheet contains 20 examples that cover all
of the oxidation number rules discussed in class. This practice worksheet can be
done in class or as homework.
Materials  REDOX Guided Notes packet
 Assigning Oxidation Numbers Practice Worksheet
 Pencil
 Periodic Table or Reference Tables

Lesson  Students may need their Assigning Oxidation Numbers

notes in their guided notes packet to help them complete
the worksheet.
 They will need their Reference Tables, or a Periodic
Table and Polyatomic Ions chart.
 Students can complete the worksheet in class after
Lesson 1 has been completed or they can do it for
homework.
 Students could also run through stations to answer each
example.
Tips  The practice worksheet can be collected or gone over in
class.
 Follow up with Lesson 2: Reactions that are usually
REDOX and Identifying the Oxidizing Agent and
Reducing Agent.
