Preventing  Corruption  in  Humanitarian  Aid
Section  4  Reflection  Questions

In  this  final  section,  you  were  again  asked  to  make  a  series  of  decisions  as  part  of  a
disaster  response.

Reflect  on  your  experience  using  these  questions,  either  as  part  of  a  group  or  on  your
own:

1. Have  you  encountered  situations  similar  to  those  in  this  simulation?

a. What  decisions  did  you  or  your  organization  make?

b. Why  did  you  or  your  organization  make  these  choices?

c. What  were  the  consequences?

d. Would  you  make  or  suggest  different  choices  now?  Why  or  why  not?

2. What  are  others  ways  that  you’ve  had  to  balance  the  needs  of  beneficiaries,
donors,  and  the  community  against  your  organization’s  corruption  risk?

3. How  do  you  hold  yourself,  your  colleagues,  and  the  organization  accountable  to
the  people  you  provide  assistance  to?  What  about  accountability  to  your  head
office  and  donors?  Have  you  faced  any  conflicting  loyalties  when  holding
yourself  accountable  to  these  stakeholders?

4. What  other  difficult  choices  and  tradeoffs  did  you  face  in  this  section,  and  how
did  you  manage  them?
