Synopsis

Frank Abagnale, Jr, posed as a pilot, doctor, and lawyer and made millions of dollars in
counterfeit checks.At the age of 17, Frank Abagnale, Jr. became the most successful
bank robber in the history of the U.S. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty makes it his prime
mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank is always one step ahead
of him.

Plots/Subplots
The subplot is when Frank decides to stop posing as an airline pilot and instead take on the
persona of an emergency room doctor. At the hospital, he meets the nurse Brenda and falls for
her.The two become engaged and Frank seems ready to settle down.Until, the authorities catch up
with him.

Plot:

Exposition-His mother has been cheating on his father. When faced with their impending
divorce and the fact that he must choose who he wants to live with, Frank runs away, thus
beginning his conman adventures.Frank decides to pretend to be an airline pilot so he can
allay people’s suspicions when cashing the fake checks on which he’s trying to survive.

Rising Action-Frank becomes the most successful bank robber in the history of the U.S. FBI
Agent Carl Hanratty makes it his mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice.After many
years Carl finally catches Frank and frank is finally sent to prison in the U.S. Again.

Resolution-Carl occasionally visits Frank. During one visit, he shows him a fraud check from a
case he is working on. Frank immediately figures out that the bank teller was involved in the
fraud. Impressed, Carl convinces the FBI to allow him to serve the remainder of his sentence
working for the FBI bank fraud unit.
Narrative structure

The Narrative structure is nonlinear narrative because it is a story that is not told in its
chronological order.
Motifs
The motifs of the story is impersonating. From the start he impersonated being substitute French
teacher on his very first day of school.He went on to impersonated a pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer.
Rhetorical devices
This story has many Rhetorical devices such as:

Foreshadowing- At the begging of the movie it starts with a game show were three men pose
as Frank and the contestants must separate Frank from the imposters by asking them a series
of questions on how he stole how he managed to steal 2.8 million dollars before his 19th
birthday.

Structural Irony-Frank abagnale ends up working for the people he was getting chased by the
FBI.

Allegory-Is used to point out Franks selfishness and desires.

Metaphors-Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and
drowned. The second mouse, wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned
that cream into butter and crawled out. Gentlemen, as of this moment, I am that second
mouse.Used to compare the 2nd mouse to Frank Sr.
