*FOCUS ON SPEAKING PART 1: INTERVIEW

1. What are your hobbies?
To be honest, I'm an introvert so I prefer indoor leisure activities like
listening to music and watching movies. I really love watching movies. I
often spend my whole holiday following romantic comedies on Netflix.
Whenever watching these movies, I seem to immerse myself in pleasant,
sweet emotions and forget all fatigue. I always consider it a good way to
escape from my current busy schedule and reward myself after a hard
working day.

2. What is your favorite musical instrument?

I enjoy playing musical instruments and am a huge fan of music. I really like
playing the guitar, but I don't get to do it very frequently. Every weekend,
I just sit at home and play the guitar. I enjoy playing guitar because I find
peace and comfort in every sound it produces, and it also allows me to relax
after a long hard-working week.

3. Do you prefer action films or comedies?

I personally enjoy watching comedies. Because I think it’s an amazing way
to entertain myself, which significantly helps relieve stress and recharge
my battery. Besides, watching comedies with your loved one may enable you
to strengthen the relationships and build fond memories with them. Finally,
these movies can somehow inspire me to make positive changes in my life
and make me become a better person.

4. Do you often read books?

To be honest, I am not really into reading books. However, I still need to do
it for my studies. There are many research papers or materials that I have
to read during my semesters. Especially when preparing for the exams, I
spend most of my time reading. That’s why when I have spare time I try to
do something else than read books.

*Do you think it is important to read novels?

Generally speaking, reading plays a substantial role in human's lives. There
is a saying that “we only have one life and reading makes us live a
thousand lives in just one lifetime” and it is self-explanatory.
Reading novels, in particular, can transport us into a different world where
we play the roles of many characters. Developing a habit of reading novels
can also help to strengthen a person's imagination and curiosity, which can
contribute to cultivating a lifelong learning spirit in everyone. Furthermore,
reading novels is extremely beneficial in terms of broadening one's
vocabulary and knowledge, which can aid in the development of a more
well-rounded individual.

5. What is your favorite song?

I hardly decide what is my favorite when it comes to music. But it would be
the song “I do”. This song is a very romantic song that emphasizes on falling
in love with a significant other. This will be a perfect song for a wedding. I
often listen to the melody, focus on the meaning of the lyrics and how the
piano plays while the beat is still going on.

6. What kinds of TV programmes do you like watching ?

Honestly, I’m not keen on watching TV so TV programmes are not my cup of
tea. However, if I have to make a choice, I would prefer news program
since I can update the latest news, get a deeper insight into specific
problems through various outlooks broadcasted on TV and especially, I can
get two for the price of one, I means that I can absorb enormous news by
listening while doing house chores.

UNIT 5 *LEAD-IN
TECHNOLOGY A:
room 2 1. Read the text:
1. A technophile is an enthusiast of new technology
A technophobe is a person who shrinks in fear at the prospect of
encountering cutting-edge technology.
Personally, I don’t totally consider myself as a technophile. However, I’m
into trying state-of-the-art gadgets at stores and finding the most
convenient tech-based objects for my house.
From my view, the younger generation, so-called gen Z, are considered as
technophiles rather than technophobes because they were born in the era
of technology and come into adulthood during the rise of social media,
smartphones and the Internet. Besides, everything surrounding them at
schools and at home is tech-based or even applied AI to make our life less
complicated.
2. Is the writer of the text a technophile or a technophobe?
The writer of the text is a technophile as he/she mentioned in the text “
while we’re busy upgrading our MP3 players…”, “we” means “technophiles”
3. Give three examples of gadgets. Are you into gadgets?
Gadgets: smartphones, laptops and smart watches
Of course, I’m into gadgets for some reasons. These cutting-edge objects
make our life more convenient and allow us to do many things that we could
not do. As a student, instead of carrying lots of textbooks and notebooks,
I just bring my laptop that is light and very multifunctional to serve my
education.
4. The writer talks about cutting- edge technology. Find a synonym
for cutting-edge in the text.
Synonym of “cutting-edge”: state-of-the-art, lastest
5. Find an antonym for cutting-edge in the text.
Cutting-edge # outdated
6. What does AI mean? Do you know of any recent developments in
AI? What do you think is the future of AI?
- AI stands for Artificial Intelligence (the study of the modeling of human
mental functions by computer programs).
- Sophia the robot is a social humanoid robot developed by the Hong
Kong-based company Hanson Robotics. The robot's main inventor is
David Hanson, the founder and CEO of Hanson Robotics. Sophia was
activated and made her first public appearance in 2016 in Texas,
United States. Sophia has been covered by media around the globe,
and has participated in many high-profile interviews. In 2017, she was
given Saudi Arabian citizenship, and became the first robot to
receive citizenship of any country. She can act like a real human. She
can understand what people say and reply to it. She can even
remember all the people she has met and all the places she has gone
exactly.
- I think in the future AI will still develop and reach a higher level in
modernisation, helping human a lot in life.
7. Have you recently upgraded your mobile or your MP3 player?
Why is it important to you (or to some people) to have the latest
model?
Yes, I have. I think it's important to update one's gadget because:
- the new one usually run faster, more efficient than the old one
- old model mobile phones are no longer suitable for some new appliances.
- if you don't, you can be left behind in the age of technology like
nowadays.
2.The Internet
How often do you use the internet for the following activities?
Personally, I often use it for many purposes, but the main purpose is for
learning and social networking. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,
I'm forced to study online, and having access to the internet is essential. I
couldn't study at all without the internet. And I use the internet for social
networking to entertain myself and keep up with current events. This is
also very important in my life. Furthermore, I use the Internet for
shopping online, banking, and chatting since it is incredibly easy; I don't
have to go to the store to pay.
My friends also shared that they also use the Internet for their studies.
Nguyet also makes use of the Internet to read online newspapers and pay
bills. Hien also says that the Internet keeps her entertained since she
could play online games whenever she is stressed. As for the rest of you, I
have the same goal. For most people, I believe that using the Internet for
study and social networking is also the most significant reason.

Work in pairs and discuss the following questions

a. What is the most worrying?
From my perspective, I think identity theft is the most worrying thing
when using the Internet.
Identity theft is the deliberate use of someone’s identity to attain
personal benefit. Identity theft is a crime and is subject to strict action
from law enforcement agencies.
Everyone is connected on the Internet nowadays and that makes them
vulnerable to attacks from cybercriminals and fraudsters. The most
important thing for you is your identity. Without identity, you are no one
and what if someone steals your identity. It means he can use the
resources only you can. Therefore securing your identity is crucial.
b. What is the least worrying?
From my point of view, the least worrying thing when using the Internet is
viruses. Because as you know, viruses are a common problem condition
common to all types of computers today. It is important that you install
some form of protection on your computer from viruses that can destroy
the types of data you store on your computer. For example BKAV,
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, etc. Also, learn how to protect your computer
from harmful agents such as dirt, liquids, or external forces that can
damage your computer and the data stored on it.

I quite often use computer for my work, study and entertainment. Because

seems that I attach my life to it, I can't live without it.

As I mentioned before, the computer is extremely essential and necessary
for my life. I always use tools on my laptop to assist my work to complete
