The purpose of this unit would typically be to train individuals in the following areas related to
urban road design:
Urban road design principles: Learners would gain an understanding of the principles and
guidelines specific to designing roads in urban environments. Urban roads have unique
challenges, including higher traffic volumes, complex intersections, and integration with existing
infrastructure.
Traffic management: Participants would learn about managing traffic flow, including the design of
intersections, roundabouts, and traffic signals to ensure safe and efficient movement of vehicles,
pedestrians, and cyclists.
Geometric road design: The unit would likely cover designing road alignments, cross-sections,
and profiles in urban areas, considering factors such as right-of-way constraints, utilities, and
pedestrian facilities.
Pedestrian and cyclist considerations: Trainees would be familiarized with designing pedestrian-
friendly infrastructure, such as sidewalks, crosswalks, and shared paths, as well as cycling lanes
to promote active transportation.
Public transport integration: The unit may address the integration of public transportation
infrastructure, such as bus stops and transit lanes, into the urban road network.
Drainage and stormwater management: Learners would likely be taught about designing
effective drainage systems to manage stormwater runoff and prevent flooding in urban areas.
Safety measures: The unit might emphasize safety features specific to urban roads, such as
appropriate signage, pedestrian crossings, and traffic calming measures.
Environmental and social considerations: The training could cover techniques for addressing
environmental impacts, such as mitigating pollution and minimizing the disruption to local
communities during road construction or upgrades.
By completing this unit, individuals would be equipped with the necessary expertise to develop
detailed road designs for urban areas that adhere to engineering standards, traffic management
requirements, and the specific needs of urban communities. The ultimate goal is to create safe,
efficient, and sustainable road infrastructure in urban settings to support the mobility and
connectivity of people and goods.
We believe that this project will provide students with an opportunity to develop their technical
skills and gain practical experience in Urban Road design. This project will also equip students
with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle similar projects in the future.
We hope that this project will be a valuable learning experience for all the students involved and
will help them in their future endeavors.
And for Empirical chart you must select empirical chart by your own from google.
Identify potential site hazards, constraints, and conditions and conduct a risk assessment for your
project.
Based on the information and data gathered, Design the required and recommended Urban Road.
Please note that you are required to provide the complete cross-sectional characteristics of the road to
be laid.
NOTE: Student must do this project by own skills as all parts already learn in RIICWD509E unit.
If student want any help to discuss this project student will message trainer on Teams or Email at
d.khan@reachcollege.edu.au to book a consultation time and discuss this project with trainer.
