GIRAFFE

Giraffes are land mammals that are often found in open forest areas in sub-Saharan Africa. Giraffes are
one of the endangered animals. Because the population continues to decline. According to the Big
Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), giraffes are long-necked mammals and chewing animals originating from
Africa. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica (2015), the giraffe is a species in a group of long-
necked and hoofed mammals originating from Africa.

Giraffes are herbivores or animals that only eat plants, they don't like meat or small animals as food. He
really likes to eat fresh leaves taken directly from the tree where he is. Because his body is tall and large,
he also needs a lot of nutritional intake. This is proven by a giraffe eating 63 kilograms of leaves or plants
in a day.

Giraffes have long legs and irregular brown skin. The neck can be bent. The giraffe is the tallest of all land
animals. Male giraffes can reach 5.5 meters or 18 feet in height, while female giraffes reach 4.5 meters.
With a tongue that is almost half a meter long, the giraffe is able to search through leaves as high as six
meters from the ground.

In African countries, giraffes have become a common sight in open grasslands and forests. Giraffes can
be seen in nature reserves, such as Serengati National Park in Tanzania and Amboseli National Park in
Kenya. There are several groups of Giraffes, namely the Camelopardalis or Giraffe Group in the northern
region, the Giraffa or Giraffe Group in the southern region.

The endangered giraffe can live up to 26 years in the wild and slightly longer in captivity. Did you know
that giraffes are one of the rare animals in the world? the current population is only 90,000 in the African
wild. This number has decreased compared to the population 15 years ago of 150,000 individuals.

Giraffes are extinct in seven countries. One of the threatened populations is the Rothchild's Giraffe which
lives in Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda. The group consists of 1,000 giraffes. The rescue was
carried out by relocating the Ugandan giraffe population after learning that there were only a few
giraffes left. Efforts to build a new population were carried out by moving 20 giraffes to a new location
across the Nile River. Because almost all animals live around the Nile River. To monitor their movements,
giraffes are equipped with special collars. With this collar, you can monitor the giraffe's movements via
satellite, and will also know if it is in danger.

the giraffe population in Kenya had fallen 40 percent in 30 years. In particular, there are

only 659 of the Rothschild type, but currently the average number of giraffes is only 80,000.

This type only exists in Kenya and Uganda. Apart from relocating the habitat, anti-poaching

of giraffes is also being carried out.
