Hello! We are from 5th grade.

We are very thankful for your video and we are very exited to tell you
about our most popular celebration, which is Fiestas Patrias. Celebrating thanksgiving was a special
moment for us because we learned from you and we had a chance to share with our classmates and
friends.
September 18th commemorates the formation of the first national board of the Chilean government
for its independence. This was in 1810.
September 18th is a date that unites Chileans from all over the country to celebrate the country.
However, it was on February 12th, 1818 when the independence of Chile takes place.
On every September 18th, my family and I celebrate Fiestas Patrias altogether. Every year we eat
empanadas and I play typical Chilean games with my cousins.
In my family, every September 18th we celebrate at Chuyaca Park in Osorno, there are similar games
as in an amusement park and we eat at food trucks.
The traditional foods eaten on September 18th are empanadas, it is dough filled with meat and onion.
We also drink terremoto, and there are terremotos for adults and children. It is a drink in honor of the
fact that Chile is a country of earthquakes. As you may know, Chileans like to be humoristic regarding
their misfortunes and that is why we name a drink that way.
We know that Fiestas Patrias is celebrated on September 18th, but we think that is the most
important Chilean celebration.
That’s why we wanted to tell you about it. We invite you to celebrate Fiestas Patrias next year and
maybe you can share your impression with us.
We hope you’ll enjoy this celebration as much as we do. We read a psalm this week that says:
behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unit.
