Plitvice Lakes National Park

Croatia's largest national park
covering almost 30 000 hectares,
is situated in the lower elevations
of the Dinarides in the central
part of the country. Within
a beautiful karst landscape
dominated by a mix of forests
and meadows, the Plitvice Lake
system stands out, fascinating
scientists and visitors alike.
Interconnected by many waterfalls
and watercourses above and below
ground, the lakes are grouped
into the upper and lower lakes.
The upper lakes are formed
on dolomites, with not so steep
shores and enclosed by thick
forests, whereas the lower lakes,
smaller and shallower, are situated

The HAL Tejas is a single-engine, delta wing, light multirole fighter aircraft that
w as designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in collaboration w ith
A ircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)
for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. It w as developed from the Light Combat
A ircraft (LCA) program me, which started in the 1980s to replace India's ageing

It had a top speed of over 360 mph

However, the development of
the Whirlw ind w as protracted due
to problems w ith its engines. The
Rolls-Royce Peregrine engines used
in the aircraft had performance issues
at altitude, and the Whirlw ind w as
most often used in ground-attack
missions over France, attacking
German airfields, marshalling
yards, and railw ay traffic. Despite
its success as a fighter and ground
attack aircraft, only 114 Whirlw inds
w ere built, and during the Second
World War, only three RA F squadrons
w ere equipped w ith the aircraft.
The Whirlw ind proved to be
a controversial aircraft during its
time, w ith some pilots finding it
underpow ered and disappointing,
w hile others regarded it w ith absolute

limitations, it w as used to great effect
