You are on page 1of 4

Necessary materials:

- 1-2 skeins of Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn color 80306 (I use exactly 1 skein,
but if you knit with medium density or have little experience in knitting toys, I advise you to
buy 2 skeins);
hook No. 4;
filler (holofiber);
plastic sew-on eyes 8 mm;
strong thread for sewing on eyes and attaching paws and tail (for example, nylon or dental
thread);
-
scissors;
needle with a wide eye.
Crochet conventions:
ch - air loop
sc - single crochet
inc - increase (knit two sc in one loop) dec - decrease (knit two sc together behind the front
walls)

We knit the head, torso and legs in one piece (the toy is knitted in a spiral).
First we knit a chain of two chain stitches.

1st row: 7 sc in the second loop from the hook

2nd row: 7 inc. (14)
Row 3: (1 sc, inc.)*7 times (21)
Row 4: (2 sc, inc.)*7 times (28)
Row 5: (3 sc, inc.)*7 times (35)
Row 6 : (4 sc, inc.)*7 times (42)
Row 7: (5 sc, inc.)*7 times (49)
8-15 row: 49 sc (8 rows)
16 row: (5 sc, dec.) * 7 times (42)
17 row: (4 sc, dec.) * 7 times (35)
18 row: (3 sc, dec. .)*7 times (28)
19th row: (2 sc, dec.)*7 times (21)
20th row: (1 sc, dec.)*7 times (14)
21st row: 14 sc (neck)
Row 22: (1 sc, inc.)*7 times (21)
Row 23: (2 sc, inc.)*7 times (28)
Row 24: (3 sc, inc.)*7 times (35)
Row 25 : 35 sc
26 row: (4 sc, inc.) * 7 times (42)
Row 27: 42 sc
28 row: (5 sc, inc.)*7 times (49)
29-36 row: 49 sc (8 rows)
37th row: (5 sc, dec.)*7 times (42)
38 row: 42 sc
39 row: (4 sc, dec.) * 7 times (35)
40 row: 35 sc
41 row: 33 sc, dec (34)

We stuff the head and upper body tightly.

Insert the hook into the next sc from the hook (see photo).

We count 14 sc to the right from the hook and insert the hook into the 15th sc.
We grab the working thread and knit the 34th and 15th sc together (see photo).
Knit 2 more sc on both sides of the body.

Next we knit the leg:

Knit 14 sc in a circle, knit the 15th sc from the loop connecting the two walls of the body (1
row).
2-4 row: 15 sc (3 rows)
Row 5: 12 sc, 3 dec (here we do not pay attention to the total number of loops, we simply
make three decreases to make it easier to close the part)
Cut a thread about 30 cm long and use it to cover the part.
We fill the torso and leg to the end. Close the part with a needle.

Now we attach the working thread to the first sc.

in the hole for the second leg.
We knit 14 sc, we also knit the 15th sc from the connecting sc (1 row)

Next we knit the leg in the same way as the first.

Paws (2 pcs.)
We knit a chain of two chain stitches.

1st row: 6 sc in the second loop from the hook

2nd row: 6 inc (12)
3-4 row: 12 sc
Row 5: dec, 10 sc (11)
Row 7: dec, 8 sc (a)
Row 6: dec, 9 sc (10)
8-15 row: 9 sc (8 rows)
Stuff the part and close it with a needle (do not stuff it very tightly).

Muzzle:

Make sure that the density of knitting the head and muzzle is the same (otherwise the
proportions of the toy may be disrupted).
1st row: chain of 8 ch, inc in second loop from hook, 5 sc, 4 sc in last loop
We continue knitting on the other side of the chain: 5 sc, inc in the last stitch.
2nd row: 2 inc, 5 inc, 4 inc, 5 inc, 2 inc
3rd row: sc, inc, 9 sc, inc, 2 sc, inc, 9 sc, inc, sc (30)
4th row: (4 sc, inc)* 6 times (36)
5th row: (5 sc, inc) * 6 times (42)
6-11 row: 6 rows without changes.

Sew the muzzle between 11-12 rows (top) and 18-19 rows (bottom) of the head.
After we have sewn/stuffed the muzzle, we embroider the nostrils on it (3 stitches each) at a
distance of 4-5 loops from each other.

Ears:
We knit a chain of two chain stitches.
1st row: 6 sc in the second loop from the hook
2nd row: 6 inc (12)
3-6 row: 4 rows of 12 sc
Fold the piece and knit it on both walls.

We attach the ears at the level of 7-8 rows of the head. Before sewing, first fold and sew the
eyelet, as in the photo. If you are knitting a headdress for a hippopotamus, I advise you not
to sew on the ear right away, but to attach it with tailor’s pins. It is better to sew on after
trying on the cap in order to choose the ideal location.

We install the eyes (we draw the thread under the muzzle).

Chain of 10 ch, from the second loop from the hook 9 sc. If you are knitting pants for a
hippopotamus, then it is better to sew on the tail after the final fitting
