Model XDLC
Class X (DCLC) Device Loop Card

INTRODUCTION The Model XDLC Device Loop Card from Siemens Industry, XDLC
Inc., is the interface for connection of Desigo Fire Safety
Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular smoke detectors, Multi- RESET
POWER
Criteria detectors including Carbon Monoxide, manual CARD FAIL
stations, monitor devices, and control devices to the Desigo HNET FAIL

Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular System. The GND FAULT

ALARM
XDLC uses one network address on the system. The TROUBLE
application program that is loaded into the on-board micro- OPEN

OPERATION The XDLC initializes, operates, and maintains all devices

residing on the loop. The XDLC communicates all relevant
device and event information, such as alarms and troubles, USB
to the PMI-2/PMI-3/OI-C/OI-D (PMI). The sensitivity of any
intelligent smoke detector can be checked and adjusted
from the PMI through the XDLC. All information about the
devices on the loop can be displayed on the PMI. The XDLC
allows the System polarity insensitive devices to be HUNDREDS
connected without generating errors.
NOTE: PMI = PMI-2/PMI-3/FCM2041 TENS

The XDLC supports four Class A (DCLA) or Class X (DCLC) ONES

loops (eight Class B [DCLB] parallel lines/stubs) of up to HNET

intelligent field devices as well as device accessories (relay
bases, audible bases, and remote lamps) in any combina-
tion. The microprocessor controls the on-board isolators to
isolate any zone from the loop if one of them is shorted.
When one zone is isolated from the loop, the other zones
will still work. Figure 1
XDLC Device Loop Card
The on-board microprocessor provides the XDLC with the
ability to function and initiate alarm conditions even if the
main PMI CPU fails. The XDLC accomplishes this “degrade” mode of operation by
monitoring the communications with the PMI. In the case of the failure of the PMI,

Siemens Industry
Industry,, Inc.

Smartt Infrastruct ure
Infrastructure
the XDLC continues to monitor its associated devices, and if any alarm device
activates, the XDLC will activate the outputs selected for “degrade” mode of operation.
Similarly, it will also signal other modules within its backplane as to the degrade alarm
condition. Note that output activation in degrade may take up to 60 seconds and that
outputs controlling releasing agents are not activated by “degrade” operation.

The “Degrade” mode operation is not the same as “Degraded Mode” as in ULC-
S527.

Controls and Indicators The front panel of the XDLC contains one reset switch, 16 LEDs, and three HNET
address switches, as shown in Figure 1. A reset switch is located on the top of the
front panel. Pushing the reset switch re-initializes the XDLC operation.

The LEDs follow the reset switch and their functions are defined as follows:

POWER (Green) Normally ON. When illuminated, indi-

cates the power for the XDLC is applied
to the card. Blinks during firmware
download or if download has failed.

CARD FAIL (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indi-

cates the card microprocessor has failed.

HNET (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indi-

cates that the HNET communication with
the XDLC has terminated and the card
goes into degrade mode on HNET
failure.

GND FAULT (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indi-

cates that the XDLC has detected either
a negative or positive ground fault on its
field wiring. Blinks during firmware
download.

ALARM (Red) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates

that the XDLC has detected an alarm.

TROUBLE (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indi-

cates that the XDLC has detected a
trouble on its field wiring; or incapability
between firmware in either the PMI,
XDLC, or both.

OPEN Normally OFF. When illuminated, indi-

cates that the XDLC has detected an
open on its field wiring.

SHORT Normally OFF. When illuminated, indi-

cates that the XDLC has detected a
short on its field wiring.

LINE LEDS 1-8 Normally Off. When illuminated, indi-

cates a trouble (open or short) on the
associated line or loop.

Smart Infrastructure
Three rotary dial switches at the bottom of the front panel are used to set the HNET
network address of the XDLC. All field devices connected to the XDLC are ad-
dressed and tested using the Device Programming Unit (DPU). Refer to the DPU
Manual, P/N 315-033260 for further information.

PRE-INSTALLATION Set the three-digit HNET network address for the XDLC using the three rotary dial
switches located near the bottom of the front panel. (Refer to Figure 1 for the
location of the switches.) The address for the XDLC must be the same as the
HUNDREDS
address selected for it in the Zeus Programming Tool. To set the address, turn the
TENS
pointers on each of the three dials to the numbers for the selected address. For
ONES example, if the address is 123, set the pointer for the HUNDREDS dial to “1”, set the
HNET
pointer for the TENS dial to “2”, and set the pointer for the ONES dial to “3”. The range
of allowable addresses is from 001 to 251 (leading zeros must be used).

USB CONNECTOR

The USB connector provides an interface to download new Firmware to the XDLC.
Using a standard USB A-B cable connected to a PC running Zeus, a new XDLC
Firmware can be downloaded. The Zeus Configuration Program is used to select the
new Firmware and initiate the download to the XDLC.

Both the power LED and the Ground Fault LED will blink during download. The power
LED will blink alone if the firmware was not completely downloaded to the XDLC.

In addition to Firmware Download, the USB port provides a diagnostic log of the
XDLC internal functions for field support personnel.

INSTALLATION The XDLC plugs perpendicularly into one slot in the CC-5 card-cage via two 96-pin
DIN connectors and can occupy any slot in the card cage. (Refer to Figure 2.)

Insert the XDLC card into the card guides rightside

up (lettering on the front panel is legible)

Slide the card in until the card edge connectors

contact the receptacles on the motherboard.

Verify that the DIN connectors of the card and the

card-cage are aligned properly. The card can only be
plugged into the card cage in one direction; if it does
not align, DO NOT FORCE the card.

Place thumbs on the front panel adjacent to the

captive screws and gently apply even pressure on
the card until the connectors seat in the receptacles
on the motherboard.

Secure the card with the captive screws.

The XDLC circuit can be wired Class B (DCLB), Class A (DCLA), or Class X (DCLC). The
configuration tool allows selection of Class A, X or B. The XDLC field circuit wiring does
not require twisted, shielded wire, but is recommended. It can be installed in conduit
containing low voltage power, notification appliance circuits, audible and speaker zone
circuits, and RS-485 and other data circuits without restrictions.

Electrical connections for the zones are shown in Figure 4. The wiring style is set in
the Zeus Programming Tool without using external jumpers.

If the return wires in a zone are reversed (in a Class A [DCLA] configuration), the line
numbers and short LEDs associated with the affected zone will be illuminated.
Switch the two return wires to remove this trouble. Eliminate all other troubles
before completing the installation.

NOTE:
1. Devices wired as Class X (DCLC) must have Isolator Mode checked off.
2. For Class A (DCLA) and Class B (DCLB), the option for Isolation Mode is
available for the X-devices as long as the wiring matches the configuration.
3. During system initialization, the XDLC will test the wiring for each device
and produce “XDLC Device Wiring Mismatch” trouble if there is a mismatch
between the Isolation Mode in the configuration and the device wiring.

COMPATIBILITY 1. The XDLC supports compatible devices with the model numbers listed in
Table 1 for UL 864 and in Table 2 for UL2572. Use any combination of those
listed in Table 1 or Table 2, as applicable.
2. The XDLC supports a maximum of 252 Desigo Fire Safety Modular/
Cerberus PRO Modular intelligent field devices distributed across four Class
A (DCLA) loops or eight Class B (DCLB) loops. A mix of Class A (DCLA) and
Class B (DCLB) is supported. The XDLC supports a maximum of 190 Desigo
Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular intelligent field devices wired in
isolation mode distributed across four Class X (DCLC) loops. A mix of Class
A (DCLA) and Class X (DCLC) wiring is supported where the maximum total
number of devices across four loops is 252 with a limit of 190 of those
Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular intelligent field devices
wired in isolation mode.
3. All circuits are power limited to NFPA 70 per NEC 760. The XDLC supports
the use of 12-22 AWG non-shielded, twisted, thermoplastic fixture wire
without conduit, if permitted by local building codes.
4. No end of line device is required.
5. Total circuit resistance of each zone must not exceed 50 ohms.
Maximum capacitance: 0.5μF between line+ and line-
1.0μF between line and chassis
6. T-tapping is not allowed on Class A (DCLA) or Class X (DCLC) loops.
7. All models are UL and ULC listed.
8. The Multi-Criteria detectors are programmed using the DPU. A PAD-5,
Document ID A6V101030358, or a SBGA-34 base, connected to a ZIC-4A, P/
N 500-033050, or ZIC-8B, P/N 500-648670, can be used to create Temporal
4 tones in conjunction with the Carbon Monoxide enabled detectors
FDOOTC441 or OOHC941. Using these detectors with the ABHW-4S or
ABHW-4B, the selection of tones are chosen using the panel’s configuration
tool.

APPENDIX A: Wiring Topologies

The XDLC supports Class B, Class A, and Class X wiring. Class X loops cannot be
mixed with Class B stubs or Class A loops on the same XDLC.

Class B and Class A circuits allow mixed mode. In a mixed mode circuit, both polarity
insensitive and isolating devices are wired on the same Class B stub or Class A loop.
The number of polarity insensitive devices between isolating devices is limited to 30.
Refer to Table 1 (Fire) and Table 2 (MNS) to determine which devices support polarity
insensitive, isolating, or both capabilities.

Siemens Industry, Inc. 8 A6V101040156_en--_e

Smart Infrastructure
Class B stubs allow T-Tapping; however, isolating devices cannot be used in mixed
mode to provide isolated Class B stubs off a Class B main feed or riser. This can be
accomplished if the main feed is wired as a loop (see Figure 9). In the Physical View
shown below, under the XDLC card in Zeus, you must select Class A in the Detail
View Wiring Class - Zone 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, for each zone containing HLIMs or LIM-1s,
but the circuit performance remains Class B.

Figures 7 - 9 and 11 - 12 show topologies that are supported when using P2 isolating
devices as the isolators. Figures 13 - 17 show topologies and limitations when using
either the HLIM or LIM-1 as the isolator.

NOTE 1: Class X is not supported by either the HLIM or LIM-1.

NOTE 2: Mixing of P2 isolating devices, HLIMs or LIM-1s on the same circuit (stub or
loop) is not allowed in any topology.

The XDLC can be used with the HLIM and LIM-1 when replacing a DLC as shown in
the following diagrams. This is not recommended for new designs; instead use Class
X devices as isolators as shown in the previous diagrams. Refer to the HLIM or LIM-1
installation instructions for specific terminal designations.

NOTE 1: When using HLIMs or LIM-1s with the XDLC, all devices must be wired in
polarity insensitive mode.

NOTE 2: Mixing of HLIMs and LIM-1s on the same loop or stub is not allowed.

CYBER SECURITY DISCLAIMER

Siemens provides a portfolio of products, solutions, systems and services that

includes security functions that support the secure operation of plants, sys-
tems, machines and networks. In the field of Building Technologies, this in-
cludes building automation and control, fire safety, security management as
well as physical security systems.

In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats,
it is necessary to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-
the-art security concept. Siemens’ portfolio only forms one element of such a
concept.

You are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to your plants, sys-
tems, machines and networks which should only be connected to an enter-
prise network or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is neces-
sary and only when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or net-
work segmentation) are in place. Additionally, Siemens’ guidance on appropri-
ate security measures should be taken into account. For additional informa-
tion, please contact your Siemens sales representative or visit https://
www.siemens.com/global/en/home/company/topicareas/future-of-manufactur-
ing/industrial-security.html.

Siemens’ portfolio undergoes continuous development to make it more se-

cure. Siemens strongly recommends that updates are applied as soon as they
are available and that the latest versions are used. Use of versions that are no
longer supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase your
exposure to cyber threats. Siemens strongly recommends to comply with
security advisories on the latest security threats, patches and other related
measures, published, among others, under

https://www.siemens.com/cert/en/cert-security-advisories.htm.
