In a race, each competitor runs and collects the oranges one at a time
starting with 01 and returns it to a box at the starting 'line. Find the total
distance covered by a contestant who manages to collect all the oranges. [4]

.@ A girl returning from a milling point is carrying mealie-meal in a cylindrical


container. The container has a hole at its base and the mealie-meaI trickles out
through this hole. It is estimated that the rate of reduction of mealie-meal is
proportional to the mass m of mealie-meal remaining in the container, so that this
situation can be modelled by differential equation,

(a) Calculate the normal force that is exerted on the road if both the man and the

Particles, A of mass 0.6 kg and B, of mass 0.3 kg are attached to the ends of
a light inextensible string which passes over a fixed smooth pulley P. The
system is released from rest in the position shown in the diagram, with the string

12 A building society gives both adjustable-rate and fixed-rate mortgages


on residential property. Residential properties are in three categories:
low density houses, high density houses and blocks of flats. The following
table gives probabilities appropriate to this situation.
