The regal divine imagery here will not be new to most singers, but some may not expect the third stanza’s

image of God as mother. Yet it is part of God’s self-description in Isaiah 66:13. This Bohemian Brethren tune
resembles both Genevan psalm tunes and French folk songs.

*Prayer of Confession
Living Christ, we confess that we are always looking for an easier way. We
long for the fullness of life with you, but we are slow to abandon the comforts
of the life we know. You call us to life in community, but we stubbornly cling to
“me and mine.” Yet, you still offer the grace of life abundant, even and
especially when, our best efforts fall short. Lord, in your heart of mercy, we
pray that you transform usSing Out,us.

Anthem A Song of the Covenant Malcolm Archer

This canonic chant from the Taizé Community is based on the opening phrase of Mary’s song when she
visited her relative Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist (Luke 1:39–56). Both Eastern and Western churches
have used the full text for many centuries as part of daily prayers.
"The days are coming," declares the Lord, "when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. This is the covenant I
will make with the people of Israel," declares the Lord. "I will put my law in
their minds and will write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will
be my people. They will all know me, from the least of them to the
greatest. For I will forgive them their wickedness and will remember their sins

Invitation to Offering Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God Carl F. Mueller

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast
me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore
These stanzas are selected from a 20th-century English poetic version of an Irish monastic prayer dating to
the 10th century or before. They are set to an Irish folk melody that has proved popular and easily sung

teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Create
in me a clean heart, O God. (Psalm
51: 10-13)

Concerning the cover photograph…. “Like the tiny light in the hollow of this tree, God reminds us that even in our hollow places there is
‘God-residue’ left. There is always enough left in order to give God praise. There is enough light to be fully restored into joy. The God-

residue or light that resides within us reminds us of God’s faithfulness, kindness, mercy, forgiveness, and unfailing love. It is when we
