Sir,

The Council is in receipt of many references from the Institutes seeking

clarification a.~ to whether the Scientists who are promoted to the RGP of ~8000/­
under the revised Career Advancement Scheme shall be designated as Scientist or
Senior Scientist.

The issue has been considered and in order to clear the ambiguity, it is
clarified that a Scientist with service of five years in the RGP ~OOO/- shall be
eligible, subject to other requirements as may be laid down by ICAR, to move up
to RGP of t8000/- and shall be re-designated as Senior Scientist subject to
possession of Ph.D. degree.

However, non-Ph.D. Scient~t in the RGP of tSOOO/- and t9009/- will

continue to be designated as Scientist as per the provIsIons of the scheme of
revised CAS.

Accordingly, Para 5.4 of the Council's letter no. 1(1)/2009-Per.IV dated

6.3.2009 shall stand amended to the above extent.

This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority in the Council.
