I. Preliminary Activity  Greetings!

II. Activity/Motivation Task 1: NAME IT TO WIN IT!

The class will be divided into FOUR HOUSES. The House of Gryffindor, House
of Slytherin, House of Hufflepuff and House of Ravenclaw.
Each group must compose a yell.

First group will be called GRYFFINDORS. These students are silent, but skillful
especially in the field of sports.
Second group will be called SLYTHERINS. These students are ambitious, proud,
determined, resourceful and talented in terms of singing and dancing.
Third group will be HUFFLEPUFFS. These students are patient, dedicated,
hardworking and loyal.
Fourth group will be called RAVENCLWAS. These students are intelligent, wise
and creative.

Show the score board to the students and explain the mechanics that every
question that is answered correctly has corresponding points which will be tallied
at the end of the class, and whoever wins the house cup will be rewarded.
Direction. Each group is given 5 seconds to name the illustrations presented on
the screen. (1 pt)
Students will use flash cards to give their answer.

After the activity, the teacher will ask the students the following questions;
1. What do you call those illustrations?

Task 2. MATHALINO!

Each group is given 60 seconds to decode the letters by answering the equation.
(Definition is given which serves as a clue and sample pictures.) (2pts)

The teacher will ask the students the following questions;

III. Analysis Task 3. TRANSCODING!

The steps in transcoding linear text to non-linear text and vice versa.

(VOCABULARY: Introduce the definition of transcode/transcoding.)

In transcoding, you should extract information from a linear text to non-linear text. Here
are some steps for you to follow:

Step 1: Read the passage to get a general idea of the subject matter.
Step 2: Look at the visual to identify what information is needed to
complete the chart or graph.
Step 3: Locate the relevant information in the passage and transfer it to
the chart or graph. Use only key words or phrases- not whole
sentences.

 After introducing the steps, let the students transcode the linear text about “Water
Cycle” to non-linear text. Let them think what appropriate non-linear text should
be used in transcoding. (individual task) 3 minutes
(After the practice test, ask students why they use that certain non-linear type of
text.)

In transcoding non-linear to linear text, you should follow these steps:


Step 1: Spend 5 minutes reading the graphs/charts, etc.
Step 2: Make sure you understand axes.
Step 3: Make sure you follow lines on graph.
Step 4: Focus on the key information.
Step 5: Observe correct grammatical structure.
Step 6: Vary your vocabulary.
Step 7: Organize information clearly.
Step 8: Write neatly.

 After introducing the steps, let the students transcode the non-linear text they
created from previous activity. (Note: Erase the written linear text from the
activity.)

IV. Abstraction Task 4. Collaborative Learning. (8 minutes)

Direction. Each group is given linear text, they are going to transcode the text into
non-linear text.

Enrollment of Cab-ilan National High School


S Y 2019-2024

Students of Cab-ilan NHS are not only the learners from the said barangay but also
from the two neighboring barangays which added to the number of enrollments every
school year.
The new school head of Cab-ilan National High School ask the data of total
enrollment from grade 7 to grade 10 in year 2020 during pandemic, until this S Y 2023-
2024.
The data are the following; for S Y 2020-2021, the school has a total number of 100
enrollees, 57 are males and 43 are females. School year 2021-2022 has 60 males and 50
females, a total of 110 learners. SY 2022-2023, 65 are males and are 60 females, a total of
120 students. At present SY 2023-2024, 72 are males and 60 are females, 132 total
students.

 After the activity, ask the students why they used that certain non-linear
text? Let them explain.

V. Application Task 5. Read and Explain Method.

Direction: A representative from the group will be given 2 minutes to present


their output.

(Present this scenario to the class. They’ll be relaying the information to the new
head teacher of the school.)

VI. ASSESSMENT Task 6. (Paper and Pen Test) (5 minutes)

Direction: Non-linear text (SET A) will be given to the students on the first
column and linear text to the second column (SET B), the students will answer
the questions that follow.

exactly 6 o’clock in the morning. He has an hour of doing his morning routine
every day before going to school. So, he decided to tracked the time he spent on
his morning routine.
He spends 15 % of his time fixing the bed, 30 % in taking a bath, another 30
% eating his breakfast, 15 % in washing the dishes and 10 % brushing his teeth.
Exactly 7 o’clock in the morning, Jhonny is done with his morning routine and is
ready to go to school.
