FOURTH QUARTER – WEEK 3

LESSON 3: INTERPRETING MEASURES OF POSITION

• ACTIVITY 7
A. MULTIPLE CHOICE. Read the situation carefully and choose the letter of the correct answer.
1. Rochelle got a score of 55 which is equivalent to 70th percentile in mathematics test. Which of the
following is NOT true?
A. She scored above 70% of her classmates.
B. Thirty percent of the class got scores 55 and above.
C. If the passing mark is the first quartile, she passed the test.
D. Her score is below the 5th decile

2. Jessa height is in the 3rd decile. Ana’s height is in the 2nd quartile. Lannie’s height is in the 70th
percentile. Which of the following is could be true?
A. Jessa is taller than Ana
B. Anna is taller than Jessa
C. Lannie is shorter than Jessa
D. Anna is taller than Lannie

3. The median in a score distribution is 40. The passing score is marked at the third decile. Which of the
following can you conclude?
A. Most of the students passed the test
B. Most of the students failed the test
C. More students failed the test as compared to those who passed
D. The test is difficult

4. After your test in math, your teacher asked your class to solve for your individual score’s position as
compared to your classmates’. The following data are gathered:
Julian’s score is the median
Anna’s score is at the 80th percentile
Marie’s score is at the 3rd decile
Harold’s score is at 1st quartile
Carol’s score is at the 2nd quartile

Which of the following statements is true?

A. Julian has the same score as Carol
B. Anna’s score is smaller than Marie’s
C. Marie’s score is bigger than Julian’s
D. Carol’s score is bigger than Anna’s
5. Scores were tabulated in from a 50 – item test and the 1st quartile is 40. The passing score is 38.
Which of the following can you conclude?
A. The test is difficult
B. Most students failed the test
C. Most students passed the test
D. None of the above

B. Read the scenario given below and write your own interpretation and conclusion in the box provided.

Mr. Banzon gave a task to his Mathematics 10 students. The students finished their task in 27 minutes
which is 3rd decile of the allotted time. What does this mean?

If Mr. Banzon's mathematics 10 students completed their task in 27 minutes, which is the 3 rd decile of
the permitted time, it indicates that all of the students completed the assignment in less than or equal
to 30% of the permitted time, leaving the remaining 70% unused. As a result, Mr. Banzon's students did
not find the assignment he assigned difficult because it took them only a little time to complete.
